I am going to replace this one saturday if it last that long. Also going to replace the regulator. This chiller sat for ten years and never ran. I have been fixing little things on it since I started it the beginning of the year. They have a separate plant but a storm took out their old wood tower. So far on this York I have replaced guide van acuator, shaft seal. Installed new purge. Went thru about 100 gallons of oil and too many oil filters to count. Also some idiot tried to fix it before I got there and it took me half the day to find he was swapping relays and mixed up the three pole relays with some tow pole relays and couldn't get it to start. We have some real geniuses in this city and old relay logic sends them over the edge.
That awful racket was the motor shaft spinning and ocassionally grabbing, It would have finally worn shaft down where it wouldnt make any noise or pump any oil! The one we had fail yesterday is on a production machine that runs months on end without stopping. It is one of 20 in this plant that is very well maintained. It failed 6 years agoe almost to the day. I dont recall any of failures on a wet machine. We had a YK on R22 that lost oil pump 4 times in last 10 years. Happens on YT or YK regardless of Refrigerant. Factory engineering blamed pump manufacturer. We installed one that only lasted 2 weeks! Baltimore parts wouldnt warranty.
I recently replaced a VFD on a YK oil pump. And just ordered a complete oil pump for a YT oil pump that makes a awful racket every few minutes. When I worked for York back in the 90's seemed like when machines got wet the oil pumps would fail
York oil pump failures We seem to change out a lot of oil pumps on YT and Yk York chillers due to shaft key schearing. While we were still with JCI, I never got a good answer as to what the problem was. Newer models with VFD oil pumps are not experiencing this problem. Anyone else seeing oil pump failures on Yorks?
