Thanks for the info. I have talked with a Taylor service rep and I may just call in a service call and have one of them come check out this old machine. It still makes good Ice cream but breaks the blades from time to time. I really need to find out if it is suppose to take metal or plastic blades. I am using plastic ones on it right now. I noticed the front pin blade in the beater is much smaller in diameter than the rear pin and suspect this my be my problem as well. I need to see if a replacement beater is available.

http://www.taylor-company.com/index.html You can go to this website and it will ask for your local distributer which you put in your zip code to find. the one for me was very helpful on tech tips. I am sure they will tell you part# for what you want.

    One possibility...
I believe that with most mixes the ice crystals get bigger with extended freeze times. These larger /courser crystals may just be too much for the blades.Try pulling your product at night and refrigerating it, then refreeze each morning.

Use an Older style of Mix, i.e. Gillette Dairy makes an excelent mix for older Taylor Units

    Taylor Ice cream machine

Thanks Bob The blade breaks even with a full hopper. I agree it might be the type of mix getting to hard. I am not sure what is the correct type of mix for this machine. 10% milk fat etc... I really would like to find out if it takes metal or plastic blades.

Product might getting too hard, hopper running out of mix, beater frame might be bent or twisted.

    Taylor Ice Cream Machine Help!

I am an HVAC instructor at Worcester Technical High school and I have a OLD single Flavor Taylor table top ice cream machine which was donated to the school. I use it for recruiting purposes when they bring students through on tours and for instruction in my classes. There is NO model number data plate on the machine and I am having problems with it breaking the plastic blades on the front auger pin only. The pin has been bent and I have had to unsolder it, straighten the pin and re-solder it. The pin diameter looks to be smaller than the back pin which may be from wear. I met a Taylor mechanic who was working at a restaurant and he told me the machine might need metal blades not plastic. Does any one have any information on older R12 single flavor table top machines? I will be happy to post pictures of the machine to try and identify the model so I can get replacement parts to keep it running. I am looking to identify the model so I can get a new auger if needed and the correct blades. The machine was not working when I got it. we got it working and replaced the Automatic expansion valve and fixed a leak at the compressor terminals. Now I am just trying to fix the blade problem. It makes some banging good ice cream! but breaks the blade after 2-3 days of operation. It does not brake them right away. Your help will be appreciated
