I ran it four times in class 2, in the mid to 80's up to 91. The only race I never finished. I personally liked the vegas to reno race, we ran that twice, 5-1600 the 1st year and 1-1600 2years later. Not the loop race all the way to reno. we took 6th in 5-1600 and 13th in 1-1600. Your getting me going just thinking about it, you haven't lived until you've raced the desert.

I saw him stop in mid conversation a few times just to talk to a small fan.
The Mint 400. If there was one race that I always made it to it was the Mint 400. By far the roughest of them all. I loved it. What years and class did you run in the Mint?

No lobster for me, thanks. I'll take fish tacos with a cold Pacifico over lobster anyday.

hvac45, Do you still do any racing? Sounds like you got into it for a while. I started in 1976 and over the years have run class 2, 5, 5-1600, 9, 10 and 11. My favorite was class 5. I have gone wheel to wheel with Parnelli Jones, Walker Evans, Micky Thompson, Roger Mears and Ivan Stewart to name a few.
When I say wheel to wheel I mean been passed by or rammed by them. Roger Mears left a big black tire mark down the side of my class 5 car with his Budweiser Jeep Honcho in one race. Now that was fun!

hey poppa, pitting can be fun and a lot of work. But nothing that I have ever done beats racing in Baja.

I just got back from the Baja 500 off road race. I went to pit for a friend that was running a class 9 car. About 230 miles into the race and running in 1st place they broke a front spindle. By the time we got to them with the parts and got it fixed it was too late. The next checkpoint was closing in one hour with a 1.5 hour drive time. What a heartbreaker.
