As obvious of a thought that should be, I never took into consideration the fact that pretty much ALL Fieldpiece products come with magnets from the factory! Wow, i feel a little stupid! I would much rather have something nice like the magnet/strap that comes with Fieldpiece products, but after looking for a while I couldn't find anything that I thought would work. That's why I went this way. I like the magnet alot and it definitely comes in handy. My only complaint would be that multiple times I have dropped it in the van and had to figure out where it went and what it stuck to.

That would work good on a hairy unit
Too bad you can't rub them on your head like a ballon

Now I put the magnet on unit and can easily hang and remove gauges without getting the magnet too close to the screen or having to hold a strap up. It seems like alot of work but it only took me about an hour and cost about $4.00

I thought I saw a video a while back where a magnet would cause interference with the digital gauge electronics. It only seemed to happen when he waved the magnet over the display. Any concerns with the EMI?

Get your magnet, strap, hook. Take it down to any business that sews patches on leather jackets. They will have the industrial sewing machine necessary to punch through two layers of strapping with a nylon thread. (strap folded over with magnet sandwiched in middle) Not sure where to go....call your local Harley Davidson dealer....they should have a contact. Should cost about 10 bucks.

Magnet with the base glued to a plate and a thumb screw you can tighten on the hook.

So the magnet is attaches to the hook. Just tighten the thumb screw on to the hook and the magnet is ready to hang the DSR on the unit Loosen the thumb screw and remove the magnet and move the hook into place and place it its hard case along with magnet.

    Sounds easy any way.

I have some pretty strong magnets. Was trying to figure out a way to attach them to a strap for hanging purposes. Thinking about a strap with magnet on each end for double strength and maybe hang as a loop to hang the hooks on. Any input would help.

Just need some sort of strap around the gauge head, or bracket that grips the sides of the manifold, to keep it from flopping over.

If testo built the case of there manifolds like their CA's that would be a major "improvement"
They don't feel like a toy when you pick them up.

Wasn't really wasn't thinking about mag straps.

It was pointed out it would make the gauge bodey weak, but Testo uses two magnets, circular shape top and bottom, on the 330 CA.

    Why not DRAs?

    I just ordered a HVACstrap.
I checked them out at the AHR expo and the magnet is pretty strong.
My DRSA-1250 on a Sherman manifold, with ball valve type hoses, should be a pretty good test for it.

Those HVAC straps look quite similar to the ones fluke sells for their instruments.

I've had the idea ricocheting around in my brain for about 6-8 months.

I don't have everything that I need to build it, though, so I'm not super motivated to do it, plus, I don't have all of the little details worked out, yet.

I think it's a workable idea and it would make an EASY retrofit of any manifold I've ever seen without permanent modifications.

Someone here, Marvin I think, glued some magnets onto the back of a manifold and used that for hanging it. IIRC, it was a YJ 41 that was flipped backwards that gave a nice, flat back surface to mount to.
E6000 glue has been great for some projects of mine. Sticks to stuff stupid strong
