UC not so friendly

Hi everyone, im from Mexico City so i apologize if i dont write well. this is my first post.

Here we sometimes use the UC but only when the aplication is simple, as already someone said, there´s no BEST option.

First, i think that as contrltech says, you must use CView 3 or later to do the job, in fact, the UC are made for be configured with the Pilot (its the easiest way to do it).

The prbblem i haved and maybe its the same as yours is that the flash downloads must be almost before any change in the configuration, the first time i have to make a UC work i was at 3am still in the building!

try this
Create all your inputs and outputs (in this case, put them on and put the numbers of the type and units) when youre done, download it to the controller and when its done, erase the controller from your database and create it again doing an upload.

The full Comfortview operator manual is in the help folder under the cview installation folder on the operator PC. The file is opmanual.pdf, its only 590+ pages long!!. Cview can display graphical information from any CCN controller, it just has to be setup in Workspace manager. If you are accessing the UC via Carrier Network Manager and viewing points as per page 72 in the manual you should just double click on a point and be able to force it and auto it etc.

About your last comment, I tried accessing through network manager. It displays all the information I need such as AOs, DOs, AIs, DIs, and software I/O value & status and the whole works, but I can't force or turn on/off the value of AOs, and if I'm not mistaken, most of the functional options are greyed out. Next time I go back to the job site, I'll forward you the error message I get from CV when I attempt to change any of AO values. One other thing. I'm used to programming KMC & Reliable controls, and this is my first time dealing with CCN (like the simplicity) or any other controls that use canned programs, therefore, I assumed that controller like this do not have the capability to incorporate user graphic points, and I did not see any graphical representation on their computer. Should I be looking for that feature?

Comfort View manual?

Thank you for your valuable input in timely manner. I tried commanding universal controller through their on-site computer which is running comfort view, but I still can't seem to figure it out, and no one in the facility really knows how to operate nor have any operation documents. I was wondering if you had a copy of a manual for any version of comfort view software. I appreciate your help.

I use ComfortView 3.1 for all my Carrier controls work. I don't have access to the network service tool, so I can't comment on that in particular. However, using CV 3.1, I have been able to access and control all the points in the UC. Keep in mind that only
certain points, such as AOs, DOs, AIs, DIs, and software I/Os can be forced to an override value. It's also possible to use TouchPilot or SystemPilot to manually control points. When you say you can view the values on the job's CCN software are you viewing these through workspace or network manager? If the graphics were not set up properly, you may not have access to all the options for that point. I would try using network manager to access the UC and then try changing some points. Also doesn't hurt to make sure you are set up as an administrator and that all the check boxes for your account are checked. Hope this helps!

I recently installed an univ. controller at one of the jobs that had existing CCN network, to control CEFs & EFs, and I configued the univ. controller using my NST V. version 2.0. Now, I noticed that through my other NST V. vesrion 1.0, I was able to command (on/off) on HW points, but cannot configure the universal controller at all, and also, when I access the univ. controller through the job's CCN software (not sure what version it is, but at least 5 - 8 yrs old), I'm allowed to view the values, but I can't do anything else with it. I asked around, and some told me that the universal controller can only be fully controlled through NST V. version 2.0, and some told me that I can access the universal controller to command (on/off) using older software, in other words, some what backward compatible, and that, I just don't know how to use it. I didn't know who to turn to for definite answers, and I would appreciate it, if you can give me some support here.

isn't the UC programmable Best++ ?

No it isn't and that is its biggest drawback as far as I'm concerned.
It is primarily aimed at fixed applications only.
But it is flash upgradeable which the other GPU's aren't, and the next release will be using the BACnet protocol as well.

If you do need to use BEST++ then the only way is to use a 1600 or 6400 and read/write across the CCN to it, so the program resides in the 1600/6400 controller.
I've done this using the Fan Coil Controllers to allow me to use them as a 2 stage heat pump controller, works fine.

Thanks guys. The good news is that the job I want to do with it is my father-in-laws garage. He is going to have a fairly big hydronic system and some a/c. It may be slightly over the top for this but I will have all the time in the world to learn how to do it, and if it screws up, hey, he is getting it for cost. The only other thing is that I saw the manual for this and it is 400 pages long. Is there a condensed version out there at all?

Here in Aus we dont use the universal controller very much as it only has factory alogorithms in it and isn't custom programable. We mainly use the 6400 which even though it is 10 years + old now days it is still a user friendly and stable platform and can be used for 1000's of differant applications.

Anything from rooftop unit control to complex chiller control stratergies, VAV AHU control etc etc. The standard inbuilt algo's are now pretty much sorted out and can still cover most standard applications. Being CCN it is fully compatible with the newly released i-Vu CCN and also the more robust i-Vu.

I like CCN controllers. Nothing fancy, simple and to the point. Heres some info on the 1600, if the salesman didn't already give it to you.

Universal controller from Carrier

We just had our local Carrier salesman out and he was telling us about the 1600 and the universal controller. Does anybody have any experience or anything good/bad to say about it? It sounds pretty good to put in smaller commercial buildings so that we don't have to rely on JCI. Which would make me happy. Is it hard to program? I have a job in mind that I would like to use it for, could I go in blind and wing it? The salesman of course said that it was no problem but that is what he gets paid to say.
