I have the New Braunfels smoker, but I made this for the patio fire pit for easier cooking. Using wood, you get smaoke any way you look at it though.
My son teaches full time at the Sheet Metal Workers local and wanted to get his 3rd year students some exposure in taking an idea through design, layout, and construction. His idea was for each student to make a BBQ. For the students it was more fun than sheet metal fittings. And they got to take them home.
I've been thinking off doing some jnj like this. Has anyone made one that uses Nat gas?

Wondering how thick of a plate did u weld in? 1/4"? Also what do you have under your cooking grate?
They have 10' x 10' x 10' old buildings here in Southern Maryland that sit about two feet off the ground. I noticed they looked like they caught fire, but the fire went out before it could burn thru. They are old Smoke Houses.
I had an old all metal refrigerator, one with the rounded corners. Put a braided gasket on the door, adjustable air intake and a chimney on it. Best smoker I ever had. Got left behind when I moved.

Thanks gibby, When I drive around town I constantly see "tanks" that would make great smokers. I like the rod idea................... Yes that is a thermometer above the handle. I do 2 thermometers, there is also 0ne on the top where the old pressure valve was.
