Put on gauges - system was completly empty and noticed new siding, told him he needed to give his contractor a call. He said "I have a year labor warranty through you dont I" I said yes sir but that covers OUR workmanship. After a few phone calls got authorization to fix it, had to tear out alot of drywall because they hit it so many times. A few days later he told me the the siding guy said he isnt responsible for replacing and painting the drywall I kindly explained to him I was in the HVAC business not drywall and for them to read my quote/contract and that IMHO the siding guy is on the hook for fixing wall but that he should have a talk with his insurer and builder and to show them the pics I took. Didnt hear back, so assume they took care of him, and siding guy giving him runaround but how hard is it to look at outside unit and see where the copper lines go into wall. House is on slab so line are run vertical and have to go up.
When running lines in the walls I always try for inside walls. Isn't always possable but worth the extra time and material if you can.

That hole is egg shaped. Do you have a pic of the second hole? Same line? In a bend?

After enlarging pic, What is the corrosion on the L.L. all about ? Any one else see this ? Looks like it has happened over time. Its kinda hard to clearly make out.

It looks very intentional to me. A few years back, I ran across a neighborhood issue with a company lacking integrity. They actually got caught drilling holes in line sets and then offering service to repair it. No telling for sure, but it doesn't look like weak copper from the image you posted.

Looks like the perfect size hole for the equalizer tapping of a TXV.

Hole looks 'clean' around the edges...

My guess is intentional... however that is only a guess from a picture.

If it were me, and time allowed, I would cut out the section of CO line (a few inches of tubing would be enough), repair the cut out place, and bring the piece back to the shop for examination.

Might learn something... hopefully not something one does not want to know.

I would be concerned with where the copper that used to fill the hole went...

    Plugged txv or worse...
