Carrier is doing the same thing. The unfortunate fact is that the first line salesmen, supervisors, branch managers, and techs are all in the same boat. They demand these astronomical margins, but the market wont support it. Like nique said, they want to do the necessary evils of Warranty and Startup, and only those "cherry" 40+% margin jobs. I heard this very same thing has happened before back in the 90's. The only problem with that theory is: When the "cherry" 40% job comes along, you have to have a mechanic left to do it. The lower margin stuff keeps your mechanics busy to keep them for these special jobs.

I'm an ex 1626 who left before the transition. I saw the writing on the wall. Coming up in the industry working for York was my dream. We had York machines and York Factory Service and I just knew that's what I wanted to be. One day it came to be, it was a good thing and I really enjoyed representing the York name, and working with some great people. York is still near and dear to me and always will be. Times and things have changed, especially in our world of hvac. Big business seems to set the standard. But it's not just JCI, it's everywhere, look at who owns what now. Almost all of the major players are owned and managed by some big company. What ya gonna do? Love 'em or hate 'em they hold the cards!
so...are we really taking a former York employee roll call? just asking. if we start a former McDonalds employee roll call...here.
