8* split across a drier? This is bad info.

Filter driers rarely go bad. They usually become restricted.

Techs should be brazing, not soldering.

If pressures and superheat/subcooling are good in cooling and then pressures go up in heating, it is usually an airflow problem. A clogged strainer or piston in heating mode causes low suction/low head.

    Keep on learning.

check the outdoor strainer and piston it may be stopped up . did you use nitrogen to solder ? did you put or change the biflow filter drier? check all of these with a temp. clamp one on both sides the inlet and the outlet look for temp. change if you have an 8 degree dif. on your filter drier its bad. on pistons and strainers temp . dif. are according to manufacturer . if your subcool is right in cool and in heat your pressure goes crazy quick probably stopped up in the outdoor strainer and piston

Old 10 seer condensers are high head bangers but not quite that high, I'm gonna go with filthy condenser coil or weak cond fan motor/capacitor

    For the Future

What I have learned in the past is, if you didn't diagnose the problem and your going back to fix it. It never hurts to check the system out for yourself to see what its doing. Time and time again I've ran into problems that were either down right wrong diagnosis or found another issue as well. Checking the system before hand is always good insurance for yourself.

45* evap temp is good. 145* condensing temp is hot!

need more info. superheat, subcool, oat, rat, sat for starters.

with the info you have im going to say a dirty condenser coil or possibly non condensibles

How nasty is the condensing coil? Might need to clean that guy, see if head pressure drops down, and be ready to dump a little freon back in it.

    Not enough info.

Did the coil have a leak? Did you pump the system down to replace the coil or evacuate the whole system, if so how much did you pull out...

If those were your pressures? May actually be low on charge.

What was your Superheat and subcool?

nornal suction pressure high head pressure

I am a first time user to the site so I hope I'm in the right place but here is my question. I had to replace a coil on old r-22 system today and I got really weard readings when I was finished. In order to help I will give all info. The new coil was 36 and the condensor was also a 36. The new coil was a piston but did needs to changed to the correct size. The duct work was above a finished ceiling so I couldn't see how big it was. I can also tell you that I don't know exactly why the old coil was condemned. After I was finished I looked at my guages and I was getting a 45° indoor coil. And a 145° condensor. Im pretty certain that the condensor was only a 10 seer and obviously the indoor coil was a 13 seer. I did not add any r-22 In fact I reclaimed some for fear of condensor going off on high limit. Any thoughts?
