ok a little tape with probably less than 15 percent asbestos. sue his a😑😑 off your all going to die of lung cancer. give me a break if your that worried pay an abatement team 4 or 5 grand to clean it out then sue that poor schmuck that informed you of the lies that crooked real estate team told you that sold you the house. you probably love them though cuz you gave them the only 250 grand you'll ever be ASSociated. You should tip him instead of making him the bad guy, I'm really tired of ungreatful americans.

Early 70's I kept an open bucket of asbestos cement in my van. Cement is not the best word, very light flaky stuff. Oh ya, the tape too. Even though the dangers were known at the time it's amazing how long it takes for information to flow down hill.

I have taken samples to an insulation contractor I use. He's able to ID the stuff. Says the little black specs are markers the industry uses.
Some times encapsulation is used like with popcorn ceilings. Paint over them. As long as the stuff isn't airborne.
Just know advice can hang you. If in doubt have an expert evaluate. Duck and cover.
Hey Dice, where have you been or is it me being numb again?

I need help with an issue related to asbestos duct tape. We were told by our home inspector that we needed to reconnect the furnace in our crawl space to the ductwork. We had a licensed HVAC contractor come out and he said we needed to replace the plenum. We said ok and ordered the work. The technician arrived and was in the crawlspace for 4 hours. When he came out he said that our old metal ducts connected to the plenum had become brittle and broken so he had replaced them with flex ducts which we had to pay for. He then said that we should consider replacing all of the ducts because they had asbestos tape on them and were old and brittle. I looked at the ducts and plenum he had removed and saw that there was the white asbestos tape. One piece was even hanging off. What do we do now?? It was two ducts and a plenum so not much tape. But hate to think we are now exposed to asbestos fibers. Shouldn't he have told us before removing the tap? I am in GA by the way.

We used asbestos tape up to the late 70's. I don't know if you need aremoval co. or not.

People in southern Texas wear it for underwear.

Asbestos was first mined in Canada and if I remember correctly,
the guy who discovered its value died from exposure to it.
As for underwear. When I worked in a shipyard I was skinny
enough to get inside the "rudder horn" and weld it while
it was kept at 350 degrees with strip heaters.
They would give me a couple asbestos
blankets that I would wrap around me as I crawled in and worked for about 8-10 minutes. Gee I wonder how thats going
to play out long term?

No one has used asbestos in tape for at least 35 years or so, north or south. If the house is indeed only 15 years old, it ain't the big A.

if it isnt disturbed, why is it an issue? Let a sleeping dog lay.

If it aint broke, dont fix it.

If you want to be sure have a sample tested.

One other thing to note typically asbestos tape on duct work is usally easy to identify:

1 it will be thicker than regular duct tape almost 1/8 of an inch if I remember correctly it will be white in colour or cream. This is what I remember I also recall that it was used on older homes pre 70's for sure pre 65 possibly

A litle asbestos tape on ducting is nothing to get too excited about if at all concerned follow local codes for removal and you should be OK

You are correct.
Asbestos tape was last used 30 + years ago and you should
know that UNTREATED asbestos is dangerous. Asbestos is a
mineral and untreated and pulverized it was lethal after 30 years.
My father died from it. It causes the lining of the lung to become cancerous.
Treated asbsetos as pipe insulation or as tape is not as
harmful unless made airborne.
I worked in knee deep untreated asbestos situations.
Fate will determine the outcome.
But too much time is wasted on asbestos.

I think someone is confusing duct tape with asbestos tape. Asbestos tape is white/greyist looking found on the old systems that Dice was talking about.....not the new age duct tape. Kick me if I'm wrong.

Sounds like the home inspector is an idiot or sniffin to much asbestos get your money back he over charged you ??????????????
