Sorry to hear of your misfortune Cxagent. I have a Veto and use it only for roof top and crawlspace work it zips up so nothing spills or gets lost. Went back to my original set up also I guess its what you get use to over the years. Hunt the SOB down like a rat and beat him senseless with a 36" manifold hose.

theres always pittsburg available thru harbor freight, not the best but very serviceable and guaranteed.

Your metal socket trays are simply a victim of consumer level production costs.

I was looking for the box that held about 7 or 8 sockets - nothing else. The entire set in the box was about 4" long x 3/4" wide x 1" tall. I'm guessing on the dimension since I don't have the set anymore. The sockets went from less than 1/4" to 1/2". I have a set of deep sockets in a similar 'box' I may post a picture of. (No I don't want to carry the deep sockets because they are too big.)

So that people understand why I am looking for EVERYTHING to be very small, the tool pouch was maybe 10" long x 2" wide x 6" deep. There were also 3 pouches on the outside for pliers. That was the total space I had for all the tools I needed for most initial evaluation and quite a few jobs.

I appreciate everyones' efforts to help.

cx were you looking for that style box or the smaller style that just held a few sockets like the bar you mentioned but with the flip top ?

I'm sorry your tools were stolen. Stuff you've worked with for years gets personal.

The old Craftsman socket sets in the green metal boxes were made by S-K, they were fine quality tools. S-K still makes very good sets, but as you've noticed they come in big plastic and air boxes. I took a look on ebay and sure enough several people were selling old S-K 1/4 inch sets in very good condition. I'm guessing that the first one is the kind you had, where the second one has a lot more extensions and drivers, but a good bit bigger box. Take a look and see what you think:

That's what I was hoping for! Somebody knew where I could find replacements. I'll hit the NAPA store tomorrow.

My truck was sitting in my driveway at my house. My driveway is a good way from the street. They only took the tool pouch. There were two Fluke meters and two pipe clamp thermocouple in the tray above the tool pouch that they didn't touch. There were tons of other tools (hammer, BIG crescent, BIG Channel locks, socket set, wrench set, etc.) below the tool pouch they didn't touch. This looks like teenagers or homeless. Anybody else would have taken the other stuff before the tool pouch.

I've been put out of business twice by theives. I should learn to lock everything, all the time. But I haven't learned yet.

That really pisses me off. I had some tools stolen off a job a few months ago. Went to lunch came back and they were gone. No other trades saw anything.

Just for reference I have tried the clip-on socket rails. They don't work very well becasue the sockets get pulled off the clip and lost.

You could try keeping a small set of 1/4" drive tools in a Klein zippered bag.

You have room in a Veto LC to store the crappy spring clip holder and sockets in a viewtainer
but from the story I doubt you'll like the larger tool bag

I have tried to replace it a few times but always went back to the old one becasue it just worked for me. I had a consistent set of tools. I knew what I had and where it was.
