Hobart can be a pain because they do not give any kind of discount to anyone. If you are getting a discount its either because the List price they are discounting off is their cost doubled or they are not OEM. They take FOREVER to get parts from. This is a line we carry and we are familiar with so if anyone needs any help with this you can call my customer service line and they can help you with any tech support you need. 800-252-5892
If your walking up to the parts counter ask to see their manual of the model you are working on. If they give you that look or sigh when you ask then ask for the parts manager. That's what I do and then I proceed to tell him if that was my employee he would be out back sweeping up instead of interacting with the customers! There is no minimum with will calls but they do have one for shipping plus a very large handling fee.
I didn't have a problem with a minimum order. I showed up with a list of parts that I needed, some were obsoleted and replaced with newer parts numbers. They helped me find the newer part numbers (bring information about the equipment the part is going in). As far as the parts lists go, in March 2011, they posted all my older equipment manuals online. You may find things have changed. I'm usually not in a rush to get parts, I generally have backup equipment, and I tear down and repair equipment *before* it goes into service. So I tell them not to make a special order for me, just put it in with their next order, etc. It's hard to make an argument about minimum order when you are flexible and accommodating. Now, it wasn't cheap, but parts from the manufacturer usually aren't. Half the time I'm just thrilled they still make the part and they aren't going to make me buy some huge "assembly" to get the one piece that always breaks.

Get the manual for your actual model number and look for the oldest manual also. For my mixer, the proper manual is a decent user manual, but if you go back to the oldest manual, it tells you how to do a complete tear down on the mixer. Woohoo! For parts, there's a hobart place in my town, I go there and order the parts. They grumble a little and try to sell me a service contract, but in the end I get my parts. C When you buy the parts directly from Hobart, do they require a minimum order? The other problem that I have had is that they do not like to let you use their parts lists to order from.

Hobart is hurting for help in my area. So much so that the customer service person on the phone asked the customer is they wanted to go to the mixer school and work part time for them. They are so awesome especially when they lose your order and then you reorder and complete the work and then your original order that they lost arrives 2-3 weeks after the completed work.

I use Allpoints and get better pricing than I can from any other supplier and I have tried all the ones previously mentioned in the other posts as well as others. I think they all base their discounts on the volume of business you do with them so loyalty helps out. It also helps to call and press them for discounts. The easiest money you will make is the money you save.

Thanks for the supplier recommendations. I have had trouble getting technical support from Hobart. I took about three days to just get a wiring diagram for a convection oven. After that it was easy to troubleshoot and find the problem. It is sad when they jack up the prices so they try to force customers to go through them directly, especially since they (at least where I live) don't have enough techs for the whole state.
try all points food service they have pritty good pricing hobart bownes every one
What discounts off list are you seeing?
partstown.com = cheaper than gcs/ecolab and hobart
The biggest discount I've seen is 15% to a mega sized food equipment service co. Just bite the bullet and cut your markup on the hobart stuff to keep working on the other equipment.I don't recomend their equipment and give this as a reason as well as their predatory proprietary nature.
Hobart As you have found out by now Hobart wants to do it all. They even tried to restrict access to manuals and charge list to contractors. Ask your customer to request manuals or parts lists. Then use aftermarket to buy parts. There are several companys like FMP that do sell alot of aftermarket parts. Artie
Hobart
I have had great service from GCS They have the parts needed, and give discounts. Some times GCS can get you better prices because of a aftermarket line. The parts work great for me. I have used them for a couple years now. My local Hobart Manager told me it was a company wide policy to sell at list price. I hate that. I have to justify that to my customers, makes me feel like crap.
