ive got a question very similar to this. installed a new comfortsense tstat with new lennox heat pump and air handler. reversing valve wouldnt energize ( allow cooling). i double checked wiring and programming and didnt find anything wrong. condemned tstat and replaced with same thing, all seems to work fine
but here is the kicker. very next week did essentially same system changeout and it does same deal. am i missing something obvious or did i find two bad tstats in a row?

Depends on the manufacturer. Rheem, Ruud, and their subdivisions were notorious for the reversing valve energizing in heating. I think they've switched and pretty much any new heat pump reversing valve energizes in cooling, which is the "O" terminal. The "B" terminal was used on older stats for energizing in heat. Now, pretty much all stats give you the option of how the reversing valve energizes in the installer options.

    Heat pump thermostats

I am working on a Goodman 3 ton heat pump and
I notice there is a B port and O port for heat pump t-stat.
I know that O will be energized the 3 ways reversing valve during cooling mode. Does B work the other way around? which B will energized during heat mode??
Is all reversing valve work the same way, which only energized during cooling mode?
