didnt think 60 was good.... im going to try to see if i need a charge first, units at least 20 yrs old bought the house with it there

Depends on where you can relocate your return, and how easily it can be done. It likely wouldn't hurt anything, but might not help either. You've increased the general mass of the room by making it bigger (taller), which will require some more cooling in there. One of the possible easier/better options would be to get a ceiling fan in there and let it do it's magic.
