SWEDGE THIS.im 1/2 dia.for u ignorants that means girth,

I bought a cap tube cutter, nice tool. I also bought the file and cap tube measuring tool set that JB Industries sells. That's what I use for a cap tube swedge.

I wouldn't. I would throw the old tubes away, along with the old coil.

Score it real good with a knife, and bend it away snapping it apart, leaves the hole opened up.

A very sharp FINE file works wonderfully. However... according to what I was taught in school ...and we worked with a ton of cap tubes there ... a pocket knife works great.

Then I finish off with a micro reamer made by Dremel. I have two shapes brazed onto a a handle made especially for reaming the insides of very small tubing.

First reamer is very steep angle. Say fifteen degrees. Quite sharp angle indeed. It will get into very tight areas to clean them out.

Next reamer is around forty five degrees. Either of them will service tubing sizes up to and including quarter inch copper.
Then all the way down to cap tube sizes.

Hey Absordtek, where'd you buy your swedges from? Mine were custom made in Switzerland during the last world war.
Thier kind of antique .. so I dont use them much anymore ...

the file is ok but its a pain in the ass when you are laying underneath a cooler.i like my new tool.ya get it

I have always just used...

a flat file...a couple of strokes on its edge and bend the cap tube back...you got it beat.

A good set of wire strippers always worked for me. Apply light pressure and a twisting action for abut 8 turns and bend the cap tube a little bit. Snaps pefect every time, no crushing and no burrs because you didnt cut the inner wall it was weakened until it broke clean.

bouhgt a new tool today its a cap tube cutter,cuts them nice and clean,doesnt crush it keeps nice and round c.d sells them
