Middle of the Road Air Quality Sensor

I had an AirAdvice several years ago. I own very expensive indoor air quality testing instruments (it's what I do). Many of the sensors on AirAdvice (temp, RH, CO2) were good enough, but VOCs and particulate matter are difficult to measure accurately. For example, with VOCs, I believe they use an HMOS sensor instead of a PID sensor. Particulate matter doesn't use a laser particle counter or nephelometer. In layman's terms, it doesn't use high end sensors for VOCs and PM.

That's fine-- most people don't want to spend $10,000+ on high-end sensors. I just get frustrated when people think middle of the road sensors are high-accuracy. Don't even get me started on the $100-200 air quality sensors you can buy online!

Machine is very vague and gives not breakdowns on what VOCS it is picking up, good for looks but no so much for a precise air monitor also have had issues with sending of reports, alot of money for the machine, not very happy with. It is a good tool for uniformed home owners but not as good as air advice has hyped.

A couple of good meters and 20 minutes can find most IAQ problems.

ALmost sounds like when best buy has the super cheap items on their flyers to get you in the store in the first place, then hope you buy something more expensive.

Would not hurt to log what goes on inside a house for a day or two, especially if it is a hypocondriac type of customer

In my oponion after a while most of the IAQ printouts start to look alike. If you already practice good installation techniques like doing a manual J, sealing duct, tightening up the house and installing good filters maybe you don't need the air advice monitor. Although in the hands of a good salesman it can be a very effective sales tool.

They result in the highest GM jobs we sell. Excellent product, but like any other tool on your truck,,, you need to take it off your truck if you want it to work.

So if you're lazy or satisfied with your YE profit picture, save the money for beer, If you're looking to add technology & unique professional features to your sales process - write the ck.

BTW - do NOT do the testing for free, do NOT give the test fee back if they purchase.... do Dr's refund the X ray or MRI fees if they get the operation?

Thanks for your response to my question. After you sold a customer an IAQ product did you retest thier home? Did the IAQ products make a big differance? Was the customer Happy with the results.

For best results dedicate at least one individual in your company to air advice/IAQ. The monitor requires a power outlet and phone line together for best results, seldom did we find a customer had both in the same place. Lots of return trips to pickup monitor and return to office to download monitor, then get back together with customer. Customers like to see the pretty reports. We seldom use them anymore.

Pricey but a good monitor.

Customers reaction to the monitor sitting in their home a day or two will vary and ...

If you can make alot of money in IAQ then it might be worth the price.
