Let me know if the manual you received is not enough and I can send you the info that you need in order to properly diagnosis this. We have had several of the same issues here lately but I would prefer to email it to you directly and not just post on the forum.

Perfect idea Klove and if we all roll and smoke a giant stoogie and drink 7 beer (Canadian stuff not the watered down US stuff) it will all be crystal clear to us all .

Here's my take on some of this...

The reason IMO the Pro's forum exists is so that professionals in this trade can conduct more in depth troubleshooting conversations. Why a person who participates on this forum for years but has never taken time to apply for pro status I can't figure out. Or why a person joins and is a member for years and doesn't participate.

I also have a little trouble with a person who comes here and joins, is a member for years, posts only a few times and then wants an in depth troubleshooting conversation to take place on an open forum. I am a believer in "paying it forward". Why should anybody ignore the forum, never help anyone and then expect that they should be helped just because?

I had a newer member email me and ask me for service manuals for York Optiview panels. I politely declined his request because I'd done it once before and the guy I helped NEVER posted on the forum again. Come here just looking for stuff and give nothing in return doesn't set well with me. Maybe I'm just too old school. When I came up through the ranks guys in my own office wouldn't be too helpful to newbies until they had kind of shown them what they were made of. I remember one guy in particular who had bent over backwards to educate and help guys who would turn around and go to a competitor for a buck more an hour. After being burned a couple of times he decided he wouldn't teach anyone the "good stuff" until they had been with the company for five years. Right or wrong, it showed me that he wanted to keep his knowledge "in house" and make our company stronger. I became pretty close to him over the years and he taught me more than I could ever imagine. Maybe it was because I never felt I was entitled to anything.

    Murphman,
I have a machine a little larger than this one that I have the same problem with. Mine runs OK as long as you can keep the condenser water temp below 80 degrees entering but as it climbs to design temps the AFD overheats. I am guessing that this is in an 2005 chiller. The problem may be that no one ran the chiller at design conditions for any length of time at start up and the problem may have been there the whole time. If this is the case there is no cheap fix, the power module would need to be changed. If this is a newer machine there is probably something else going on because they increased the size of the heat exchanger in the power module after 2005. You can call Trane Tech Support and they will talk to you about this. You may have to call through your local parts center though.

While, what I said was accurate, it wasn't right to say outloud. I apologize for my behavior toward you. I do not apologize for trying to keep people safe...only my inappropriate posts toward you. I sometimes forget that not everybody has everybody's best interest or safety in mind.

We're not making up any rules. We are just deciding what info we want to post and where. It looks like your making rules when you say "don't post if you don't want to help". I'm sick and tired of you strolling into threads constantly telling people to post on the open areas. Your the one constantly starting this drama! I didn't belittle the OP and neither did Jay or New York. We all just simply said that this should be discussed in the pro area. We are saying "We would love to help you but let's talk about it in the pro chiller forum, you have the minimum posts now". We do want to help as we have helped many other people over the years. If you don't want to get pro status that's your business but don't b*%ch at us if you don't have access to it.

    2) I don't know the OP or YOU. When a member reaches pro status, at least we know the member has been vetted and is a professional. For all I know, the reason you don't have pro status is because you're not a pro and don't meet the qualifications.

    3) This is our our livlyhood and how we feed our families. Maybe some people don't want to post anything and everything on the internet for the WHOLE WORLD to see.

    4) It's my decision what info and where I post NOT YOURS!

    End of discussion.

and look at all of those teenage drivers out there who are 15 years, 364 days old and they are not allowed to drive. they fall asleep and 'magically' are allowed to drive unaccompanied when they wake up. as a society, we have to set limits and since we are not their friends and family, we have set an arbitrary 'passing point'. pass the test after 16 years and you can drive, yet we all know that most of the teen drivers are idiots and shouldn't be allowed to drive yet.

around here, we also need a 'passing point'. after 15 posts, the moderators can usually determine if a particular person is really in this industry or not. the 15 posts also prevents people who aren't in this industry from gaining steps and procedures that may seem to apply to their situation or machine but really don't apply to their situation or machine. the dangers don't magically disappear, however, if you are really in this industry, hopefully, you have been trained enough to know the differences in terminology and safety. sure, there are people on this site who shouldn't have access to this information either and they are 'pro status'. but it has been determined that they are at least in this industry and should understand the safety aspect of what we do.

look at me...i am like R123 and explaining it again too.

if you have a better way of determining who is safe, then step up and enlighten us.

better yet, how about we close all of the open forums, require a written, 8 hour, moderated test to be taken at Newton, PA (the closest site to you)...and we will start with you. if you don't get a 100% passing grade, then it means that you aren't good enough be to here....sound good?

once again, i apologize to Dad.
