did u check the A/C, defrost, cycle running pressures....i have had a ton of indoor TXV's cause defrost problems. on that CB19 it may be a what i call a double barrel type, if so it will be 3/8 flare fitting on liquid line. there is a kit for these..56j19 is probley the TXV, NOT 100% on that. the kit is seperate, its just a few brass fittings with gaskets.

Fan motor is specked for 845 RPM. Guess I need to check it,,,,,,,,,It's true,,,10 minutes with you is just like 4 years of college. Use tell my apprentice that>>>>LOL

That condenser fan motor could be weak or about to fail. Its not good for the motor to have the fan blade stopped while it is suppose to be running.

Test motor windings and capacitor.

I've seen the outside unit not moving enough air because of bad motor. The unit ices up quickly, goes into defrost, but the defrost cycle isn't long enough for the ice to clear. Next heating cycle, more ice builds up, the unit goes into defrost as scheduled, but the cycle is not enough to clear ice (even more Ice has accumulated now), the cycle continues until the fan blade is stopped by ice buildup.

The tech sees a Block of Ice which use to be a Heat Pump, and thinks the unit isn't defrosting.

Might not be your problem, but worth a check.

UPDATE!!! Guess I'm not done with this unit. H/O called last night. He had been gone for a day, and came home to an iced unit. Enough so that the fan blade was stopped by ice. He switched to emergency heat, and is warm. Because I got to be the other guy that came in behind the guy that installed the board and relay, I double checked all of his connections and only found one wire attached to the wrong terminal on the relay. After restarting the unit, I jumpered the test pins on the board and it initiated a defrost. Fan shut down, reversing valve actuated, call for heat went to electric furnace, and everything checked out. I jumped pins again, and it terminated defrost and went back to heating. Is there a possibility that the timmer part of the board could be screwed up, and not letting unit automatically go to defrost? Defrost Tstat checked out ok. Closed when cold and opens when warm. Any input?

OK,,,,what I found. Arrived to find the H/O had just turned the heat pump off, and the house was cool. When I asked him why he shut it down he explained the OD unit was iced up, and wouldn't defrost. He had switched it to Em. heat and there was cold air coming from the registers.
First thing, get them some heat. Tstat said 60 degrees in house with pellet stove in living room running. Got into A/H found one element of three pulling amperage. Shut it down and did some checking, found two sequencers not bringing on heat, traced back to original control wiring on system. Aux. heat and Em. heat had been actuating one element since original installation 12 years ago. Changed 2 bad double switch sequencers, and re=wired controls at AH and Tstat to actuate all three elements upon call for Aux. Emer. and defrost. No OD stat, no emergency heat relay in original install.
Now the OD unit, previous service guy had replaced board, and relay. Found wires had got crossed on board and relay, keeping DFT out of system. double checked all control wiring, and moved a few wires around, changed DF times to try every 30 mins. followed all wiring from diagram that Rundawg had sent me (Thanks Again).
My love affair with Lennox and their schematics was re-affirmed by the time I had traced all the wiring out. Why would you use a dummy lug on the potential relay for the compressor as a junction point for the R circuit for the low voltage control circuit? Unit running normally, For the first time since system installed they have emrgency and supplemental heat, Customer was happy,
Driving home, came around corner, and found a bull elk standing on the edge of the road looking in someone's mail box. 5X6 about 7 feet tall LOL. Drove a little defensively for the rest of the trip home.

I work on lots of electric furnaces. I just wanted to know what i needed in the way of sequencers and limits, and maybe elements. Hate to go clear up there to find I need to order a bunch of OEM stuff. The diagram and manuals also told me what defrost board and DFT to make sure I take. It's up in the coast mountains, in NW Oregon. They do a lot of defrosts . From the phone conversation, I'm betting the furnace problem will be easy, and the defrost thing will be easier. I'll know today. Thanks Rundawg,,as usual you came through.

who needs a wiring schematic to install a few sequencers? CB19 is a nice roomy AH...its early 90's stuff....one thing is for sure the defrost problem isnt the problem...unless your way down south...............Thanks to all the people that help others

Lennox information needed

I need some information on a heat pump system that I put a compressor in a couple of years ago. H/O is telling me that his wife called a company out to the system after they noticed it not defrosting. The contractor installed a new defrost board, and a defrost relay. Three trips, first to diagnose and order board. Second trip to install defrost board and determine that defrost relay is faulty and orders it. Third trip to install relay. Tells H/O all is well, collects and leaves. Less than 30 days later, house is at 56 degrees, and H/O calls contractor. Contractor states that unit probably needs gas, and it will need to be checked when the temperature gets warmer H/O switched system to Em. Heat. Blowing cold air. Called contractor back, and she was told that they are terribly busy and because it's a freon issue, they can't do anything for the customer until the temperature warms up in a couple of months. I get a call from H/O, whining about "No Heat." Can you come down here and fix this heating system? I'll pay you anything to get my house warm.
