I've been working on some vending machine refrigeration units recently. Nothing complicated. Very basic refer units that can be pulled out and repaired in the shop. I repaired a leak in a unit and then began evacuating the system while monitoring the micron gauge. So after about 15 minutes the system pulls down to 700 microns and then seems to stay there for a long time. I was wondering why such a small system would take such a long time to pull down because I was using Napion valve core removal tools on both the low and high side and I'm fairly confident in my vacuum setup because if I close the ball valves on the core removal tools tools I can get the vacuum setup to pull down to 200 microns pretty quick. So I began to suspect refrigerant was entrained in the oil in the compressor and boiling off slowly. So I decided to try something to see if it would speed up the vacuum process.
I lifted the compressor end of the unit about one or two inches off the bench and let it drop. As soon as I did this the sound of the vacuum pump changed and I could see a distinct flow of vapors exiting the vacuum pump. After I did this a couple times the system quickly pulled into a deep vacuum.
So does anyone have any explanation of what happened? Did jostling the oil in the compressor trigger some reaction that allowed the entrained refrigerant and moisture to boil off at an accelerated rate? What's the physical phenomena at play here?

i installed a new Norlake cooler today with the capsule pack refrigeration unit. pretty cool. 100% self contained and complete. run L1,L2 and hook up and you're done.

question- as i keep coming across very old P.O.S walk ins- couldn't you just cut a correct size hole in the ceiling panel with a sawzall, install a capsule pack, hook up 2 wires and have a brand new refer system. they are pretty cool. evap, condenser, drain, controls all in one pre packaged unit. also sit flush mount so you gain space inside. Any reason a home brew conversion wouldn't work great on an old box?

This ones killin me

KM630 M W H .... water cooled cuber ice machine

Get there and machine is off. Owner says it was beeping at him when he came into work. I asked , did you happen to count the beeps ? Nope

Turn it on , it seemed like forever until it went into ice mode , and when it did the thing was cycling erratically , so i call tech support. He determines water valve not working right. Its almost 5pm , and hes in a hurry to end the call.

I replace that next day.

Still acting up , and of course on a saturday theres no tech supp

I think think the board is messing with me , but anyhow heres the low down.

Thing had mold all over , nice and thick , I Cleaned the nasty gummed up water level sensor. Threw in some nickel cleaner and got her nice and clean , wiped everything down good. Took my time and did a good job. Freakin squeaky clean.

Put in ice mode.

Board goes though its test fine. Bin fills up.

Goes to harvest , which is first , and it only goes into harvest for a split second ( im hearing the hot gas valve ) , then the board goes into its test mode again , and im like .... huh ? Then i hear the hot gas solenoid split second again, then the boards testing again.

Wth

Shut it off. Turn back on.

Board does its test , bin fills , harvest kicks in for like 30 sec , then ice mode kicks in. Sweeeeeeeeet.

Attempts to make ice for about 10 min, tube bends nice and frosty , suction 40 , and im patiently waiting on the ice , and suction slowly dropping to 35.

All the sudden it shuts off , and board Led's light up one at a time like its in test mode , but its not test mode , i dunno what mode you would call it.

Closest green LED comes on , then 5 seconds later that ones off and 2nd led comes on , then that ones off and 3rd comes on , 5 seconds later 4 comes on and so does compressor and water curtain, shes attempting to make ice again.

So im like ... wooohoooo ... and im listening to the sweet sounds.

5 min later turns back off , and the board is doing the strange test mode again , then compressor comes on and making ice.

Sometimes its only 1 minute between acting up , and sometimes 20 min

Does this like 5 times on me

I shut it off , try again.

This times it makes a batch of ice after 45 min without problems.

Havests fine for 4 minutes , suction is 88 , goes into ice mode , suction 47 , bends frosting nicely , and now few minutes later back to the same crap of shutting down and test mode.

Shut it off , unplug wires , bang relays , tap this tap that , turn back on.

Makes another batch in 48 min , harvests , back to ice mode , and back to the same ol crap again.

I leave and tell customer i will return monday when tech supp is open.

He leaves it running while im gone , it makes 3 batches of ice , and back to messing up for him.

WTH ?

A small grocery store(owned by people from a foreign country) bought 3-12 foot used sections and they want me to put them together and get a condensing unit for them. I told them I need a model number so I can find the installation manual for them so I can install these as correctly as I am able. It looks like 2 of the sections were piped together and the third was physically connected but not the refrigeration piping. The two sections that were piped together have the exit pipes coming out of the top of the unit and the third section has it's own set of pipes coming out of the top. I apologize for my ignorance, but I don't have a whole lot of experience with this type of equipment. On the wiring diagrams all I can find is "2500 series". I am not sure how old these sections are but they look like they may have been stored for a while, because some critter stored his nuts in one of the bigger holes in the side of the sections. The txvs that I see are R22 and the one I can see completely is "EGVE 1-1/2". The owner also says they are meat cases, but I don't know if that is what they were or what he wants them to be. I have to go back there next week, they will be moving them into the store. I also need to see if these people bought these units without knowing what they were or if they have more info.

Is there a location that I could not see where I can find the model number of these units? If I could get the manual I could determine whether I can pipe the units into one condenser or whether the three sections need to have two condensers. Again, sorry for my ignorance on this.

I'm trying to locate the manual for this machine and am having no luck on-line. To top it off their office is closed now. The mod# is: TS015MR404A2. I'm specifically looking for its clearances. I have two condensers and they reject heat in between the both of them. They're 14.5" apart and my compressor for the walk-in cooler burned out within a year. I'm thinking its due to the spacing. The other condenser is much larger, runs more often and is for a freezer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Looking for a little help--Tx in advance!

Got two butcher cases combined (two TXV (expansion valves)) and one seafood case (one TXV) combined into one condesor/compressor on roof of small market. R-134a No fans, all gravity cases, very old cases, some fins on evap tubes missing, and new compressor.

If I adjust charge low--sight glass not full and flashing--I can get to temps between 30 and 38, which is great but my suction line stays iced at compressor bell and wet and ices up to heads at times. I open all three of my TXVs for more super heat and still iced. (i am in no way a super heat expert-I have always first adjust charge then as last resort play with expansion valves--always striving to not allow icing at compressor).

I adjust the charge full (full sight glass) with TXVs full open, TXVs half way closed and extreme closed (less super heat)--full charge doesn't cool below 48 degrees with all above examples.

I drastically reduce charge and I get low temps but icing compressor.

I could use a little direction. Thank you.

also low suction(35 psi with r22) at 35 deg. box, while very low sh, about 1-3 degrees. sight glass clear, fans both on, im thinking coil must be dirty inside restricting airflow. any help appreciated. thanks
