Get to 500 and you are doing ok. Get to 250 and you are doing great. 15 is unnecessary and unattainable.

I had a JB for 20 years.Still worked and gave it to a friend.I was given an old Robinairabout 10 years old.Works good, but actually liked the JB better. The new Robinairs are made in China and are not suppse to be that good. If I bought a new pump now ,it would be a JB. The appiuon is suppose to be the best, and probably is,If you don't mind parting with $800.00. For that much money,it better be good.i agree with the other posts ,you will not get to 15 microns 500 is recommended in most cases

my yellowjacket works just fine.....keep fresh oil in it and always purge with nitro....shouldnt take more than half hr to pull down to 250 and hold 450 after a couple mins.

JB makes the best vacuum pump. All 4 commercial companies I have worked for only buy JB vacuum pumps.

If I pulled a 60 ton system to 250 in 30 minutes. I wonder how much ice I made in it.

Big Barcardi: How do you know that you never lost a compressor due to moisture? i beleive that you pull a good dry vacuum. However if a leak occurs later.Moisture gets in the system and creates acid. Then a burnout. I believe that you do a good original install, but you can not control everything that may happen later.Just trying to learn something new,not trying to give you a hard time.

if a leak happens later. it is not because of my evac skills....
if a leak happens later. how would i get moisture into system. unless there is no charge whatsoever....and compressor is running and it is raining???
also part b...i know i havent lost a compressor in ten yrs cause the only compressors i have lost have all been 2stage recip bristols.....major problem with those ones....

Geez 15 microns, that's like outer space vacuum LOL! I use the 7cfm JB, its a nice pump but it can't create a black hole! I think pretty much any pump can pull a 500 micron vac, hose diameter can help with pulling a deep vac fast.

What do you guys think about the JB DV-6E Eliminator vacuum pump. It cost around $290 brand new. I am newbie in the field and I am in school right now. But I am slowly buying my tools now so I can be ready when I hit the field. Does the cfm make a difference or more is the HP of the motor?
Here's some specs i found for this model
*25 Micron Field Tested (Thermistor Gauge Reading)
•24 Month Warranty
•Improved Wider Stance Feet for Better Stability
•2 Stage Direct Drive Design
•O-Ring seal Drain Valve
•Check Valve Prevents Oil Backflow during Power Failure
•Low Profile Rocker Switch
•Completely Field Repairable
•16 Ounce Oil Capacity for good contaminant absorption and easy oil changes. See JB Vacuum Oil
•Low profile rocker switch helps prevent damage and accidental shut off . O-Ring seal and hand tight design help keep your oil changes quick and clean .
•Four Point Feet offer a wider stance for better stability on uneven surfaces
Part No: DV-6E
1/2 HP Motor: 1/2 HP, 115 volt, 60 HZ, 1725 RPM
Free Air Displacement (LPM): 6 CFM (1701pm)
Intake Ports (Male Flare): 1/4" x 3/8"

Happy with my JB 5 cfm. Portable, durable, I use it on everything up to 30 ton. Bigger than that, I bring an extra pump.

JB platinum is a good vacuum pump. Get the 3/8" hoses to get a faster vacuum.
The appion is good but there over $800.00. Little overkill for residential work imo. You can get a good JB or yellow jacket for half that price.
