I was told by an HVAC contractor who was selling a late model boiler that my electric hot water heater can be piped and used as optional indirect hot water heater storage? Is this even feasible and if so are there any problems with this?

I'm thinking of having my 1970s vintage oil fired Slant Fin boiler e/w a domestic coil that I now use for cold weather back up heat replaced with a used late model higher efficiency cold start type boiler and indirect hot water. My utility room in a finished basement is small and don't really have room for much of a separate indirect tank. My domestic hot water is currently piped and valved so that I can use either electric or from the boiler coil.

I currently have mini splits for most of my heat, but I sometimes need to use the boiler (and wood stove) in really cold weather. I also use the boiler during winter power outages where my generator can carry that load but not heat pumps and electric hot water. Thanks.
