View Full Version : Iraq...A Failed Mission

geerair
02-25-2006, 01:49 AM
William F. Buckley founder and publisher of the staunchly conservative National Review and leading conservative voice has declared Iraq a failed American mission.

"One can't doubt that the American objective in Iraq has failed."

"Yes, but within their own counsels (Bush administration), different plans have to be made." "And the kernel here is the acknowledgement of defeat."

Buckley is the most prominent of a growing number of conservative and Republican voices admitting that the Bush doctrine in Iraq was ill-conceived, born of fabrications and exaggerations which is rapidly culminating in irreversible chaos and disastrous implications for American foreign policy.

Some people just like to give up 2 minutes into the first quarter.

Every other occupation the US has embarked upon took decades and cost tens of thousands of lives. So few people seem to understand that changes don't take place on a time schedule. We only fail when we quit.

And which occupations cost tens of thousands of lives?

Now yer being facetious. You know what he means. Occupations are always costly and lengthy. Grow up and get over it. Otherwise, tony is gonna have another playmate.

On each previous major occupation, the war leading up to them costs hundreds of thousands of lives. Occupations took decades.

Go ahead. Post more of your stupidity.

That's not what he wrote. Unless you claim to be a mind reader, why don't we let skrewt explain what he meant. That would seem to be the best solution.

The upshot is that even leading conservatives are coming around to the realization that Bush's vanity war has failed.

It's one thing if Howard Dean says it but when a conservative of Buckley's stature says it then you know it is terribly bad news for Bush.

Everybody is entitled to their opinion, never amazes me how if the opinion is different than "the Bush Supporters" they are attacked.

Agree with me or I will fight with you type of thinking.

I ask the question why this administration does not take responsibility for their actions and I get attacked complete with name-calling.

Sorry to say boot, on this Bush thing...geer is right, not on all accounts, but mostly right.

Geerair reporting from CNN...This just in ...William F. Buckley...........
Do these guys have any clue as to how wars are won?
I can see all the vets at Normandy storming the beaches waiting for the newest spin doctor to report how the assault is going and when we should quit.

The substance of skrewt's post is not to give up or lose focus on the objective.
It's hard to understand what intestinal fortitude is unless you posess it.

Thanks Bootie.

Rob's such an idiot he still thinks I'm a Yankee and Geer's got Clinton's jizz on his dress.

Vietnam is nothing close to resembling the mideast and Iraq, but it sure sounds like good sing-song spin coming out of the mouths of the liberals.
My brother spent 2 years there in Bien Hoa and I know what it is like for families to grieve over those lost in a war.
Funny though, when you hear the soldiers speak about a mission or a war, they always seem to believe in what they are doing because they are subjected to and interact with people who have been tortured, mutilated and killed by oppressive dictators. They come back home and listen to the rhetoric and can't believe how gullible and stupid people can be.

It's hard to understand what intestinal fortitude is unless you posess it. Or in Bush's case a hardhead unfettered by rational thinking and bolstered by a desperate attempt to salvage his legacy on the backs of our fighting men and women.

Hyperbole my a$$.
Hyperbole is what you post on a constant basis here.
If our country had been short on resolve in previous World Wars, you might possibly be singing a different tune today.

You must think that oppressive regimes who torture their"citizens", kill their dissidents and squash their women while looking for ways to promote global terrorism and nuke their neighbors off the map are something America and the rest of the world should ignore.
There is no "hype" in facing down enemies and having the guts to put them away so that people can live a decent life, unfettered by power brokers and extremists.
