Mother recently rented a home with a Williamson M-1167-10-5-D65 oil furnace. Oil pump failed, owner replaced pump and nozzle. During recent visit I thought it seemed to be running hot. Side of furnace and supply plenum are warm enough you can't leave hand on it. I measured 163 degree air at register 10 ft. from furnace. I'm not used to oil heat. Should we be concerned?

Oil furnaces do blow very warm air. I can't say whether your furnace is operating properly or not with out looking at it. If you have a safety concern, the best course of action is to contact a professional and have him check over the system. The small investment for peace of mind goes a long way.

Thanks, I'm trying to guage how insistent to be with the owners as they are responsible for maintenance. I suppose I could have a pro come in and hope owner will cover cost.

you need to talk to the owner first. tell him your concerns and see if he will pay for it. if he wont then see if you can cover the cost of a inspection or split it up. make sure you have a professional tech that will perform a combustion analysis and smoke test on the burner. have you checked the air filter? could be clogged. if a technician has a combustion analyzer they will usually leave a copy of the combustion results with the furnace. you can post them on here and we can see if they are good. an analyzer is usually a 12" long rod with a gun handle that they will insert into the exhaust pipe to take readings. make sure they do this
