Hope you guys can help me troubleshoot my vacuum pump. About three weeks ago, installing a new heatpump and trying to pull a vacuum, my pump would run a few minutes and shut off. You could here the internal load reset and turning the pump would run a few more minutes and shut off. Trying to get the vacuum pulled down on the unit, I kept allowing the unit to cool and restart it. After about 5 minutes of restarting, it sounded like it relieved pressure and I lost what vacuum I had. Now the unit will run but will not pull a ounce of vacuum.

The pump is a yellow jacket and I noticed the other day at the parts house, there were a couple pumps behind the counter. Has anybody experienced this same problem or heard of this problem ? Has anybody been inside of a pump?

Thanks for the help

Sounds like valve broke. there are rebuild kits you can buy. You have to check with yellow jacket dealer.

cmorris look and see if the motor to pump coupler has broke. You can buy a new one at the supply house. If your pump is afew years old it would have the rubber one. There is a updated steel coupler now. Turn pump over to see.

Maybe broken vane(s) or filthy head, and also sounds like a bad check valve, too. We use JB's and the replacement head is about 60.00 less than a whole new unit. How old is yours? How often you change oil?

I had that happen to me and I found internal seals blown out and some broken stuff too. I replaced the pump because it was old. I used it with 3/8 hose only and I used it alot and yes, I should have changed the oil frequently :)

If it was simply the coupler, it would not have lost vacumm

On a Yellow Jacket pump if you shut the pump off for any reason without valving the system off that it is hooked up to you will loose all vacumm. The reason I said to check the coupler is that I have 5 of these pumps and the older rubber coupler will strip if the pump oil has not been maintained,if the ambient is hot, cold start ups or if pump has lots of hours on it. Now does he have other problems in the pump head?I don't know but checking the condition of the coupler would be the first thing to do. If the pump has a older style rubber coupler it should be checked or replaced with the newer steel coupler. To replace the coupler takes about 10 minutes.

He said it shut down on overload several times and didn't mention it loosing vacumm. I agree change the coupler too.
