Aprilaire 600 Humidifier Leak

I've seen repeated instances of the plastic feed tube breaking on the Aprilaire 600 (http://www.aprilaire.com/product.asp?ID=FD81E7EEA99441FAA8855FE4844DB11F&categoryID=F16F78145781484A8A7C756B87F43AB3) humidifier. The break always happens at the sharp bend where the feed tube passes from the outside to the inside of the humidifier cover. It seems that the plastic is too brittle.

Anyone else seen this? Any ideas how to fix it? I suppose I could replace the feed tube along with the water panel during the annual maintenance cycle. But I'd rather be able to fix this once for all time by putting in a less brittle feed tube.

I noticed mine was crimped pretty severely when installing it a couple months ago. Might go with copper if plastic becomes a problem.

I called their 800-number and spoke to someone about the problem with the feed tube. There is a new feed tube available that is less brittle than the one it replaces. The new feed tubes are gray; the old feed tubes are black. Hopefully this will do the trick.
