A Hamas government, without Fatah as a moderating force, would greatly complicate Abbas' efforts to restart peace talks. The Islamic militants, who carried out dozens of suicide bombings and seek Israel's destruction, have said they oppose peace talks and will not disarm. If Hamas would reject violence and join in a legitimate political process as a legitimate respectable party,it would go it a very long way to help stabilizing that whole region.

If there was a vote in that election, I wonder if the populace felt a little intimidated if they didn't vote for the fanatics? Here, if there was threat of retaliation for voting a certain way, we would have only 10% or less actually vote.
