Any of you guys do any work servicing/installing solar panels? Just did some training on the operation/maintenance on some new panels that were put in here I was amazed at how simple things look to work on. Maybe it was a good install but looks like something I'd be interested to learn more about. Scary thought though of having the utility power shut off and still have a panel be live.

Scary thought though of having the utility power shut off and still have a panel be live.I have a 40 panel ground mounted 8.8 kW solar array. One thing I learned that I thought was interesting is that they produce power immediately upon exposure to the sun, even before they are installed. Just take them out of the box and they are live.

If the grid goes down, they do not feed backwards into the grid, or to the house, beyond the inverter. The inverter mimics the sine wave from the grid to make alternating current from the direct current the panels produce, so no grid power, no solar power (to the house).

Grid tied are required to have grid power sensing inverter setups. No grid no solar
