Hello all ... i have been in field a long time but seldom work on Trane units .one of my clients has 5 rooftops & has those cheesy stats with the temp slides for heat & cool. DC is the signal used & they are interested in programmable . What are my stat options. To make a long story short these people are very cheap & want the cheapest option. Any ideas ? Even converting signal may be costly or is it a catch 22 ? Well thanks to whoever can enlighten me.

See if the power company offers rebates for programable thermostats that may be the begining to covers some cost. Two options are Trane programable or Trane CTI board and any t state of your liking that fits the need.

cheapest option I would use would be the BASen019B stat, it would be your cheapest way to go, it is a communicating stat to the rtrm or ucp board and it will even give you cool failure, heat failure diagnostic icons etc......If your rooftops have reliatel controls (you will notice W,Y,R G on the terminal board of the rtrm board) you can use a standard programmable stat. If your unit has a ucp (older rooftops) and you really want to use a convential stat then you would need to purchase a cti board and install it (not recommended in your case however it will work!!!!!
