Model - H4DE060S06A Condenser #
Serial - WENM024695

R-22 refrigerant - Scroll compressor.

This unit has 10-2 wire and 30 amp breaker feeding it.
Makes me question the tonage.
Somebody installed a hard start kit on it.

Thank you.

produced 5/2004 with 5 year parts warranty. I would check to see if it has a 5 ton a/h, and have it wired correctly.

looks like the power is a little low on amperage. Normally 5 ton units are serviced by a 60 amp. circuit.

and the tag where you got the model and serial number say what in regards to min circuit amps?

The Tech Guide on this unit (York H4DE060) shows -

MCA - 37.6 amps

MOP - 50 amps

Breaker is to small for the unit, along with the wire.

How big of a house are we talking here?
Granted, a manual J is the only way to correctly get the right unit size but:
Is that unit CLEARLY grossly oversized?
Maybe that unit went out to the wrong house.
Or maybe the homeowner had the "bigger is better" mentality.

Check your air handler also. Who knows, maybe someone slapped the wrong condensor in.

update - Found unit not running. Tripped breaker. Units duel capacitor was bad, tested with ohm meter herm side not good, plus shinny solder spot.
Replaced with new 80/5 capacitor and a new hard start capacitor.
Unit still will not start trips breaker after a several seconds.
Ohmed compressor after 10 minutes of breaker tripping and have open start winding. It was installed in new dentist office 2005, duct work all sized correct.
Now torn between selling new empty charge r22 unit or convert to 410a?
I am not changing just compressor at this point.

After 10 minutes tripping breaker, probably out on overload. When you changed the start capacitor, did you change the start relay? If you have a matched York evap coil from 2005, it can be converted to R410-A. I would definately recheck that compressor after it cools down before proceeding.

As was pointed out, use the label for required OCP.

For required wire size, consult article 440 (going by memory) of the NEC. The sizing is not what you would use for something other than air conditioning, hence many AC units are installed with wire that is larger than code requires. FYI.

The name plate says 29 RLA compressor and 1.9 amps for fan.

There is identical unit next to it with 8-2 and a 40 amp breaker.
Must have been two electricians on same install years ago.

Thanks for your comments everyone.

Sold them a new R22 dry condenser. Running correct wire to new unit.
