Finally giving up the paper and pencil (I think) and moving to a program based format.Hoping for some thoughts/input as to who offers the best practical version.I'm looking for ease of use (I'm old, lol) as well as full coverage of all the "new"building materials.If it takes me hours to navigate,it is not easy to use.No reminders of how you will still have to measure and fill in the blanks,that I understand.Ideally would like to fill in the blanks on the job on the keyboard and be able to print out results at the office.Thanks for everyone's insights,both good and bad.

You might take a look at this program linked above. I'm leaning toward getting it here pretty soon, it appears to be easy to understand and the developers have been in the load calc business since the early 80's and are still here so to me that says something about their experience and staying power.

I've toyed with buying far more expensive programs and some cheaper programs can be found as well...I'm like you I would rather have something less sophisticated but still yet pretty accurate and up to date with current building methods/products.

I'm looking into Elite and Wrightsoft but found this thread. Is this software accepted by Building department? Imean certified by ACCA J8?

If you are talking about HVAC Calc No, not certified by ACCA or based on J8. Is it accepted by your building department, that you will have to ask them. Will it be accurate in most cases? you bet!

I downloaded the demo and looks nice but for only $106 more I can get one that is ACCA certified and can be used to pull a permit. So I don't see much value on this one other than being used on estimates because it's easier/faster than the other ones and if the customer signs the contract than you use the ACCA one to print reports to building department. Only problem is you still need the ACCA certified one so you would need both to do that and I only buying one for now.

I have found Elite to be fairly simply to navigate. ihave had it for about 5 years now.

I had checked Elite and WrightSoft before. I went to a conference and attended a clas by Jack Rise and another one by a guy that uses/teaches Elite. They both agree that they are the 2 best and only real options out there. I just got Elite yesterday, should get by Monday. I got only the Rhvac and if I like it I'll buy the Manual D and Drawing Board.

Decided to buy Elite becuse it seems easier to learn by what I've read in here plus I will be able to have a copy on my desktop and on my laptop since they don't limit the number of installations like WrightSoft does. Besides that I have local professional training/consulting available at better price than WrightSoft.
