Im wondering about the adjustments on the sporlan and acr oil pots. Ive noticed that alot of compressors are running with very little oil showing in the glass. Ive been told that the sporlan if adjusted down too far will cause it to fail with the ball falling off. Im wondering is there a good starting point with both these brands?

leave it right where it is out of the box-
and dont adjust it without gauges on
suction and reservoir to verify pressure diff
is sufficient along with oil.

acr I think is a better float but I miss the
removable strainer of sporlan.

Lost my love of the sporlan after a 3 wk install
float went wide open and cost me a 40 hp.

Have seen sporlans now that are non adjustable-
factory equipt and probably a good idea for the
rack manufacturer to get it out of warranty period.

if it ain't broke don't fix it-
a 40 hp lesson

The "newer" Sporlan level regulators have stops at the top and the bottom. You CAN feel them if you don't go all ham-handed with the wrench.

You can drop AC&R float balls just as easy, BTW.

well these are oil pots that i can see someone adjusted before. I see in the log books that they have been adjusted but i was wondering if there was a good starting point to ensure I didnt cause a failure

Your adjustment will depend on the compressor manufactures recommended crankcase oil level. 99% of the racks I work on have copeland discus semi's that require a 1/4 sightglass. For the most part we'll have either a 5 or 20 OVC check valve. With a 5 we set the adjustment at 5 full turns open and with a 20 it takes about 3 turns. This works out well if all the other parts of your oil system are working correctly. This is also in the paperwork that comes with the oil float.

Tese adjustments are made from opening all the way the adjusting down 5 or 3 turns right?

Go the other way. All the way closed then open 3 or 5 turns.
