Floor registers typically perform better than sidewall registers particularly when you use under large windows and sliders.

Floor registers work better for heating and ceiling registers work better for cooling , I would say if you want to save the wood floors try installing ceiling supplies with low sidewall returns in every room (except no returns in kitchen or bath)

if i put low wall returns, will it suck all the cold air out in summer?

No because you will have an even throw of air.

The air will be pulled through the return evenly...hence the high & low set-up.

I don't know what you mean "suck the cold air out in the summer"

You want the air-exchange through the system.

That's basically what your heating & cooling system is an air exchanger, the goal is "transfer" whether it be heating or cooling.
