I have a freezer that the suction line has a cool return and the liquid line is hot the compressor is a air cooled when the freezer starts to cool down the compressor starts to over heat and the overload kicks out can you tell me why the compressor is heating up? Thanks

check your suction line superheat
probably too high (should be around 20)
saying your suction line is cool is not adequate
measure suction line superheat !!!!!

possible causes:
low on gas ?
pressure drop in suction line ?
no insulation on suction line ?
slugging destroyed valves ?

you need to tell us more

If your liquid line is Hot ....It sound like an overcharge condition to me

heres a few-
non-condensibles, or otherwise undersized condenser;
overamping compressor esp. out of defrost (CRO needed);
low charge or starving txv- need pressures-
general terms aren't going to help!

gather data......

What about the obvious, dirty, or plugged condenser, or cond. fan wrong rotation. Really need to be a tad more specific with the technical data.

Is it the overload or the low pressure control that turn off the compressor? Hot pull down situation!

Is there a crank case pressure regulator? Low temp air cooled compressors can overload easily if the box is warm.
