Hi guys
I'm writing you from Mexico, the reason I come here is that there's not much info or talk about hvac on the web in spanish.
We have had problems with a GE fridge basically since we bought it, or maybe it lasted a year working alright, after that it has broken 4 or 5 times. We live in a small town and the closest real city is 60km away, and getting technicians to come and fix the fridge is always a problem.
After a while with the fridge without working, we decided we will give it a try to get it fixed, before buying a new one. Well we contacted the official warranty and repairs company, we knew we would pay more but what the heck, we wanted good service. So we call this company with coverage in the whole country (Serviplus) and they communicated us with their closest associated technician, and they come, can't fix the fridge here and take it to their shop.
Ten days later or so, they call us, saying it's the compressor and giving us a quote accordingly. The freezer was working when they first came, but I was not told the guy had said the compressor was the problem. Approximately 10 later, after I called them like 5 times, they show up with the fridge: they plug it in, and somehow, since they had said it was working in the shop three days ago, we didn't make them wait to see if it was really cooling, so we payed them and they left. On retrospective it was like they where running scared. One thing the boss said was that it had been expensive because they had had to replace the compressor among other things.
Obviously, 6 hours later we realized it was not going to cool. My sister, fed up with the fridge, the technicians and the situation, moved the fridge, took away the cardboard piece they had put to cover the compressor and stuff and finds out it was the same compressor it had before the repair. Exactly the same, black and round like a ball. With some pipes. I'm kidding you. We know it's the same because the fridge had some stains of some kind of liquid coming down from the top, and these stains fall down exactly to the compressor, and had made a distinct shape with a tape that had been used to hold a cable. We had seen this for like 2 months that the fridge was showing its guts because it was in a hallway.
The technician of course denied it, and said he will come that same afternoon to see the problem, he never showed up. It's been a week and he doesn't answer the phone, and I called the super reliable company Serviplus and they said all they can do is fill a report so that the next time their supervisers visit the guy they will ask about it. They offer no warranty at all, and the technician gave us no receipt, he only signed a piece of paper when we gave them the down payment.
What I come here asking you is: is there a way we can prove the compressor is the same? We know it's not the same, but we want to be able to prove it in order to sue this guy before the Consumer Protection Agency.
Do you guys think Serviplus (the official technical service company for GE and another brand name appliances) should offer me protection in these type of cases? Or is this normal?
I will really appreciate all you can comment in this case, to be honest we feel like crap, we will probably not gonna see our money again but we want to at least report both the technician and Serviplus.
