Rather than shut off the XL950 t-stat, I thought I could hit the C/E power button to OFF, pull the small power cable and shut off the circuit breaker on the Hyperion and pull the C/E door off. Sound OK?

Vacuum pre-filter.

Reinstall the filter, close door, re-attach cable, circuit breaker ON, power button ON and hit reset button. Sound OK?

Our local dealer/installer closed up their doors. I did read the Trane User's Info Guide. It has been about two months since install and red lite is blinking. Other filters OK as there are three green and one yellow on display.

Thanks for listening

not sure what you mean by not shutting off Tstat

Set Tstat for no air flow.Follow your steps. If you have airflow while removing prefilter you could dislodge particulate matter from duct.

Only the green light should be on. The lights go up to red based on run time. The more the system runs, the faster the mights go up to red. I would turn power off to the furnace, which should be within sight if the equipment and remove and clean both the pre filter and the 'cells' The pre filter can be vacuumed or water washed, whichever you prefer. The clean effect cells are to be vacuumed only, and cannot be determined clean or dirty with just a visual observation. The electronic part of the air cleaner, is to be wiped down with a damp cloth and the pins that point upwards in the middle of the round holes are to be stabbed into a piece of styrofoam to be properly cleaned. This typically needs to be done at least every six months for proper operation and best results.

The XL950 is difficult for me to navigate. Even tho I have the user's guide. Thought I could bypass fooling with it......and by turning off the Hyperion circuit breaker......it would keep the XL950 off and anything and everything else, off.

Am I wrong (as usual)?

That would work

Re hitting the RESET button: If I hold it down for 1-2 seconds only the red flashing light will go off. Right? This is what I want as I am ONLY cleaning the pre-filter.

If I continue to hold the RESET button down another 4-5 seconds it will clear the collection cell LED readout. Right? I don't want to do this.

That is correct, press the button to stop the flashing light, hold down the button to reset all the lights to new. It sounds like you purchased a nice system, it might be time to get to know your other local Trane dealer they should be able to help you from here on out. I think if you go to the contractor locator map on this website there is a Trane dealer in Grants Pass that is active on this site. I am in Portland.
