Im in Knoxville Tenn this week and I have gone several heating and cooling companies looking for employment and I have not had muck luck. Me and my wife are looking to relocate from Mich. The in laws plan on retiring down here, and my wife has some family in Oak Ridge currently. All most every company I have gone to the hiring manager is not there so speak with, so I can sell myself. I am here till sunday. Is there anyone in the area that knows a company in need of a service technician?

Corny works in that area. Check out the supply shops. They normally have a bulletin board with job openings for techs. They might be some open on Saturday like John Stone or CC Dickson, etc. Might have to hang over till Monday. Good luck

I really have no idea what supply houses are down here. If you know of more off the top of your head please do tell.

A problem I think you may have is alot of companies if they are looking to hire someone dont want to deal with someone who is "relocating soon". If they want someone they probably want them now. I'm not saying that you wont find something but the fact that you still live out of state can make it tougher.

I see what your saying. But really there is nothing they have to lose other than taking my word on a start date.I will not quit my current job without giving them a 2 week notice.I also cant see just moving down here, and hoping I get a job.I want to know I have a job when I come down. Thanks for all the input. I really thought I would have gotten a couple job offers. I thought 3 sounded promising, but only 1 of the 3 I got to talk to the owner.

I found this on HVACAGENT. You can pick the state you want and it gives you all the supply houses in your area.

Persistence will get you a job. Keep up the search, apply, apply & apply some more.
If you have experience and are willing to work, there's a job out there for you.

I work in Knoxville a lot but never go into any heating and air wholesale houses. I know absolutely nothing about the hvac scene there.
I would type up a bunch of resumes and have your in laws mail them out to all hvac companies in the area.
Or... Take a local phone book from a local motel or pay phone booth and use it for the addresses and mail your resumes yourself.
There are probably many job openings there but it is hard for someone to hire you or promise you a job when you live so far away..... a lot of times they might not want to hire you....get you to move......and then have the job fall apart for some reason....

Is late summer the time to start a job in TN? If its an area with a long cooling season and short heating season, the end of cooling season might be a tough time.
Now is a good time in our market, I don't know about Knoxville. The World's Fair was fun, though. I remember the oil shale exhibit.
