might try www.thebluebook.com type in "airconditioning" pick state area then hit contractors(***) this will list any and all companies up there so give some cold calls.try to connect with an owner or service manager the worst is they say no....but have a resume ready to fax or e-mail it in hand just in case.....might try Trane down in Rocklin they might be looking for a apprentice inquire they cover north of the capitol..even actually mailing it also could be a way so have them xeroxed to go...

Hey man,
Congratulations on your marriage, and A.A.S.
I was placed, right out of school, in a maintenance position in 2009, for a reputable A/C company, and got laid off 3 months later. No one else was hiring because the economy tanked that year. I had to take work that was really not related to HVAC's technical advancement. To avoid discouragement, and a total loss of all the effort I poured into my education, I would (1) try to stay in my books. (2) watch youtube video, of people like Dr. Z, Fritz, and other HVAC training videos. Sometimes your friends will trust you to work on their stuff, but you better have your instructor's# handy, or someone you may know with more experience.:payattention:

even consider HVAC maint. in a facility...hospital..office buildings...if it has compressors and pumps and filter its something at least...run tha thru the winter up there and consider a move in 2012 spring....even with years in the field i've found out nothing happens fast in being hired...like said don't don't get discouraged :gah: it's them not you

I see 7 adds on Craigslist Chico. I would email my resume to any or all of those first. Good luck.

Dr. Z? Seriously?
You're doomed if you weren't watching for laughs.

If you've still got free time, check out the free classes that PGE puts on....Actually, check them out regardless. You might learn alot and do some networking.

Congratulations on getting married, welcome to the stressful times of getting into this field.

I would try the following:

1) Print up your resume, visit local hvac supply houses in your area. Many have a notice/jobs board.
2) Same goes with plumbing supply houses, a lot of smaller contractors do both.
3) Phonebook/Yellow pages, get dialing and emailing that resume out there. Prepare a script, and be ready to answer some questions.
4) Explain you would be willing to work for a day for free just to show people what you're worth.

5) Hit up apartment communities, maintenance companies etc. It may just be banging in filters and cleaning coils but its experience.

Good luck in up North, down here in the OC we're picking up finally.

Everyone has put forth some great ideas. Something I found to be such a Boss pleaser is face to face contact. Get in there when they are there and introduce yourself and let them know the info that has been mentioned. When service managers and bosses see only papers and resumes they are not going to see your special drive for learning and hard work. Make them see and believe how valuable you are and how much u can become. I just got a new job doing just that. Granted , now i have to walk the walk but it has put such a fire inside me!

*sigh* still going at it.....i've had 2 interviews but no calls yet.....it seems to me that they want experienced tech.'s/service/installers over an EPA certified/ college associates graduate w no experience yet...geeeessshhh, pretty harsh for us Entry Level and fresh out of College guys to get our foot in the door......

thank you all for the tips and comments!! i will continue to still look and i might as well find a no career job while at it...........

you have to have experience to get a job, and need the job to get experience.

I tried to get in years ago in the OC area, when the economy was great, but to no avail.

just keep trying and get in when/where you can to gain experience.
