Just picked up the DV-40 from jsphilly (wow, fast shipping).
Pretty anxious about trying it out on a TruTon chiller Monday. Found the system with about a zillion holes in the evap. I scratched using my manifold gauges for pulling vacs, and will be coming off my pump with a tee and rated hoses (Thermal Engineering 1832 Vacuum Tee with Hoses). And topped off with the Appion valve core removers.
Once the tee comes I'll take pics of my set up and give review.

Did you have a micron gauge before this one?
I took back mine twice and don't know what to do with the third one I have that is also crap.
I don't have the scruples to sell it on e-bay to someone who thinks it works.
It turns on yes
Just look at their specifications it says nothing about accuracy.
I should have known better when I paid over 200 bucks for it :gah:

AS a general rule I buy one a year, my CPS seems to work the best, just for those who have problems, try cleaning by using an eye dropper and rubbing alcohol to clean sensor, also most of these units made will not take any pressure over a couple pounds so if you accidentally hit it with a charge, give it to your kids to play with!!!

Yes I have a micron gauge, but it is the biggest lying POS Sucko you could find. Almost gave up using them because of the many problems it and previous ones were giving me on the job. Felt like they were costing me valuable time screwing with them.
So figured I would revamp my strategy this time round with new set-up.
If I have to deal with another crap, I'll do like the other guys in my shop and say the heck with em.
And yes, I clean them religiously with alcohol after every use.

The DV-40 has a great display and like the alarm.
Supposedly there is a way to adjust the reading with some key programing with a known value but tech support refused to give it to me :gah:
What ever happens with the DV-40 you shouldn't give up on a micron gauge and you'll be surprised what you aren't seeing if you were to get one of these BluVac gauges.
Besides the incredible precision I don't clean my BluVac religiously either ........ only when it tells me too

This was after a complete oil flooded drenching of sucked out oil that filled half my hose. I shook it out and it still worked for a day with the tiny oil indicator on the regular screen until I cleaned it and I really did not see any performance issues besides the time it shut down because of the complete foul.
Before this I've hit it with positive pressure almost every time I've charged with out an isolation valve and only after months of this abuse it was talking to me again ...

This is when I cleaned it for the first time ever with alcohol and put it in the freezer for a few min. and left it on the counter for a few more and it was completely self recalibrated.

I am so irritated with technology. :gah:
But me and the JB had a long talk together about disruptive behavior in the workplace including but not limited to LYING, and cleanliness.
I am so scared to spend more money on these so called technological advances. Everything that I've bought that was supposed to be the next greatest has let me down.:gah:
And to top it off...The people I argue with about following procedures, such as M I C R O N levels, are laughing their arses off while I continue to blow more money. (I buy my own tools such as micron gauges, manifolds, meters, ect..)
If this fails, the other side has won. Guaranteed, I will not spend another dime.

Have you tried your DV-40 yet maybe I was unlucky and your will work fine. I don't like how it does not start at 760,000 on the display. I'm going to buy the BluVac but also hear good things about the Yellowjacket 69075 and the CPS VG200 VACROMETER™.

The BV starts out at 25,000
The JB starts out at 10,000
Beware of false low readings with the JB besides it jumping all around.
Its another product that looks great in magazine ads and wins fake awards.

I think we have all been there at least one time. Just because others resist or are not competent enough to do a job correctly should not be a good reason for us to quit doing what we know is right. New technology can and will always be tough because nothing works right the first time out. Eventually every good manufacturer gets the bugs worked out and the rest go bust. It's better in my opinion to wait for the first generation of equipment to get an update before investing, especially in expensive equipment. I like to ask questions and see what everyone else is doing. (this site is all about that) Good luck with what ever you decide.

No I have not tried it yet. But we have an agreement between us. I promise to keep it clean, and it promises to be truthful.
My irritation comes from the fact that this industry is flooded with over priced technological garbage.
$200 should be more than enough to purchase a good gauge.
RIGHT

thumbs up for the bluvac bought one 5 months ago and let me tell you.... i had to change my whole vacuum setup in order to keep with the accuracy of that thing... love it highly recomended it dont know why ppl purchase +10 - 10 % vacuum gauges when accuracy is the first reason you dished out 200 + to buy one ...just an opinion.....

Aww geese, now I have to buy a blu vac :censored::gah:
But seriously, just hooked it up to pump and took little longer than expected to return to atmosphere (should say 12,000). I can live with that.

She passed with flying colors today! Really enjoyed using it.
We worked our asses off babysitting the pump today (me and my JB-40). Changed oil so many times I can't count. Had to leave pump on overnight. Then me and Just better will go back in the morning.
If she hangs in there like she did today I will be very happy with my purchase.
Does anyone know if they sell replacement sensors for this?
I keep em clean, but having a spare wouldn't be a bad idea

Glad you are still reading microns.
They make sensors, AC/DC adaptors and a hard case if you didn't already get them.
Might want some extra o-rings too.

Was you gauge all over the place?
My DV-40 cant make up its mind. 8000 then jumps to 10000 drops to 3000 (all within 10 sec). It seems to do pretty well below 2000 ( same ballpark as a supco). I turned it on today open to ATM and it read 5000....I don't think I can trust this gauge.

Mine would also go low and sit rock solid which was what I was looking for but it wasn't a good reading.
The sensor seems to work best if it is about >100˚F IMO
I saw it work the best connected directly to a hot pump for a long time.

Thanks Ice,
Know where to pick those up at?
BTW
Still holding in there, will keep my eye on the bluvac for possible purchase next year. But if the jb hangs in there for the rest of the heavy season I'll be happy.

When I was buying JB stuff I supported the local suppliers that carried them.
