View Full Version : square bit

Somewhere a while back I saw a 1/4 hex bit that was made to loosen the square head bolts that are used on fan blades. Can someone help with a manufacturer or anyone that carries them.
I picked up a set of 8 point sockets at Sears that work well for square head fasteners. You have to really search for them in the socket section of the store...

I've always used a refrigeration rachet wrench

I use either a reefer ratchet or a small crescent type wrench. Usually the reefer ratchet.

I use a service valve wrench along with a 1/4" socket extension (12") inverted to clear the motor or blade.

3/8 ratchet wrench of the 12 point flavor works for me each time.

I use the 1/4" extension inverted as well. Works good for when people don't have the right motor and they put the fan blade upside down and you have to take it off to replace the motor.

I think thermal engineering makes the one your looking for.
Spline sockets work well too.

Sears has a new set of "universal" sockets. They look like a spline inside, and are available in standard and metric.
Might want to check them out.

McMaster Carr sells 8 point sockets also.

You should just go up to sears, and get a 8 pt socket. That will fit it perfect and you can replace it when you break it,or lose it,plus its cheaper.
I got a 3/8,and a 1/4 drive 8 pt 5/16 works great. Thanks for this thread guys,I didn't own this tool till last night.
