Our furnace people have checked and changed things in our furnace but we still have a smell and they have no idea what to do now. It is a eye stinging, nose burning acrid burny smell is the only way I can describe it. It comes after the furnace has been on. Sometimes it is only a few minutes and sometimes a lot longer. We had no smell all summer and after two times the furnace was on this fall it is back again. Sometimes it comes when the furnace hasn't been running for a while. The furnace has been cleaned the duct work cleaned the chimney looked at. Is the anyone out the who may be able to help we would greatly appreciat it. The whole thing is a puzzle but it is really annoying. Thank you S.

Can you give us some specifics on the furnace. Make, model, serial, or maybe post some photos. Is it a 90%er, upflow, counter flow. Does this happen when their are any other appliances running in the home etc?

It is an Airco furnace Serial no. 023538L2L Model No.BML-60-80-90-108. Installed Nov. 1996. No other apliances have to be running it just starts to smell at any time day or night.

Call someone with a CO/Combustion meter.

Ditto! Also make sure they have been trained on how to use it properly.

We had to change oil companies because our old one retired and sold business. When the new people came on Mon they completely checked furnace, pipes, chimney, tank, co check, before they would take us on as a customer. They couldn't find anything wrong anywhere. Said furnace was working perfect, draft and all. We still have smell and everyone is completely stumped as to what is causing it. Thanks for you input but nothing seems to be wrong to make this odour. It is a puzzle no-one can apparently answer.

If that CO alarm has a UL 2034 rating it will be a false sense of security instead of peace of mind. :(
