Is there a rule in anyone's local code for how close a return filter grille can be to a kitchen?

With todays "open" floor plans ,we are required to be 10' from thr kitchen exhaust fan.

there should be a return in every room but the bathrooms. As far as the kitchen, try to set up a return as far from the stove and burners as possible. The more returns throughout the house, the better the system will work.

The idea for disallowing returns in batrooms, I think, is obvious: smell.

The same can be said for kitchens and are not allowed by IMC code. But like the man said; when the floor plan is open your at the mercy of the architect, uo gotta put em
where ever.

Just suck more air from the adjoining living room or hall way.
