I am replacing my existing setup. For the 1200 sqft down stairs I will be putting a CPLT 30 and AEPT 036 AHU. Should I put a thermostat with dehumidistat built into it on this system?? If so which brand or thermostat with built in dehumidistat is the most reliable??
On my upstairs 900 sqft, unit will be CPLT 24 with AEPT 30 AHU. On the upstairs I was thinking of saving a little money and not going with the Dehumidistat on this unit. Is this a mistake??
Also, how does the Dehumidistat help reduce humidity?? I know it slows the fan down to reduce air flow but isn't this bad for the compressor causing discharge pressures to be high. All of my local contractors say they have never installed one with this type of controls on it and this worries me a little. I do not want them to screw up a new system. Do they need to check air flows when the dehumidistat backs down the air flow??

OK, I know the instructions state "dehumidistat", but that is not exactly accurate.

Use any old heat pump thermostat and a standard, duct mounted "humidistat" for the "dehumidification" feature.

Collins,, The de humidity feature is activated by a simple procedure described in the install instructions.
Clip a jumper and install leads. Your profession should not have any trouble.

As RoBo says you use the himidistat that is used on humidifiers. Break on rise I think. Cheap, so there is no reason not to use it on both system.
When it is set up correctly you can hear the blower change speeds as you turn the stat from higher to lower humidity. And that is how it dehumidifies, by lowering the blower speed and making the coil colder thereby extracting more moisture. This unit has a TXV that throttle back the refrigerant to protect your compressor.

Will this one work or is there a better choice to put in the return duct??

That link is timed out, but I think the one you should be looking at is "WHITE RODGERS 2271W-21 MECHANICAL HUMIDISTAT", even though the picture of the control that is shown with the caption is wrong (it shows a De humidistat, which closes on humidity rise)
