what are the symptoms to know if the time fan relay is bad. How can you know for sure

fan doesnt come on is one clue.......another way is to see if the fan is still good by hooking it to direct power

I had one that would start when i would start thermostat but b/c i had it in auto after it would shut off b/c it would reach desired temp. when the room temp. goes above temp i have in thermostat it won't start and it cause coil to freeze and outside unit

probably a digital stat that uses batteries to power the closing action of the relays. Most likely low batteries. Shows up most in summer since it is closing two relays. The batts have enough oomph to close the y but not the g contact. Put your meter on dc you should read 1.5 volts per battery. Example if you have three batteries you will read 4.5 volts dc since most are in series. If in paralell than it's just 1.5 total. Once the batteries go below 1.3 vdc this stuff happens.
