Return duct work

Have new construction completed and was wondering if returns should be tin duct work or if using thermal board within jiost space is accepted. thanks

You have to find that out by your local inspector, some allow it some don't (panning joist)

ask what is the static pressure for the system -- and have them show that it is within specifications of the unit.

Being sure that they are sealed tightly is important,duct leakage creates problems,even if it leaking in the ccconditioned space.

Thanks for the responses. I was thinking a plenum return system would be easier to service for maintainence cleaning etc. The house has five air handlers. Three for high velocity and two conventional. Plan on doing it once and want it as done the right way. Thanks
