i just replaced my 2.5 ton janitrol with a ruud 3.0 ton 13.60 seer split system the contractor said the 3 ton would be fine my townhouse is 1422 sq ft located in so fla i feel like he might have oversized the unit because now it comes on about every 17 -20 minutes and runs about 15 minutes the old unit ran alot longer and didnt cycle as much i called the contractor he said it normal also the air volume coming out of the vents is pretty strong and somewhat loud any info would be appreciated

It is impossible for any of us to tell you if the A/C is oversized without doing a heat load calculation. Dont listen to people who will give their "rule of thumb" equation because they are nothing more than a good guess. If the duct work in the house was designed with 2.5 tons in mind changing to 3 tons could cause some noise. You might be able to adujust the fan speed to around 350 CFM/TON to reduce noise levels. If the noise is coming from the return duct you might have to make it bigger or ad another return run to reduce noise. The run times do not seem that unusual to me. If you feel like its cool but the himidity level is still uncomforable, then it may be oversized. Hope this helps....

thanks for the reply i will contact the contractor to see about turning down the fan speed
Many duct systems are undersized to start with, now you have added a half ton and 200 cfms. This means you may be at or well below 350 cfms a ton now.
Setting it at a lower speed may be TOO low,and cause more problems. They need to verify the air flow, cfms per ton ,before going to a lower speed.
