Hi all ,

One of my tenants skipped town and rent and left behind some goods in his hurry to escape. One of the items is a York 3phase 10 ton split a/c with both compressor and air handler. It uses freon and according to serial #s I'm pretty sure its a 10 ton. I tried to reference the serial numbers online and that is what I found. I was hoping the hvac pros could offer me some advice on where I can try to sell this unit to recoup hopefully at least some of what he owes me. I am hoping that the hvac pros on here can give me an idea of what I should be fairly asking for or whether these units are even wanted anymore as I'm told freon is old school. Thx all

Would need the Model & Serial #'s.
Freon has a new name ( refrigerant ) same stuff. Dupont still uses that name.

Serial number will tell you age, model will tel you size. That being said it is against site rules to give pricing so anyone that provides $ will be violating rules. Also, the bad news, the unit wont be worth much....very few people want a used unit with no warranty. Those that do won't pay much.

You can call the manufacturer and ask what it would cost to get a brand new version of that unit, and how old this one is. That should get you started.

All I've been able to find out so far is that the outdoor unit is 120,000 btus.

I realize we can't discuss prices but if anyone could give me advice on who might be interested in such a unit I would greatly appreciate it. My plan is to simply call HVAC contractors and see if they are in need of such a unit for a bargain.

You could try Craigslist or another site like that.
I have to agree that you won't get much for it. Anyone who knows much about HVAC will be very wary to by a used unit.

As somewhat said, there's not really a market for used a/c systems. You are very fortunate to get the above interest you've gotten. ;)

The only time we sell used equipment is when we demo it for free and sell it for next to nothing to get something for labor. 30 day warranty, usually ductless splits. rtu's take up too much space to store.

Like stated above, your not going to get much. Why not leave it for the next guy and charge him.

You could also try donating it to a local charity and get the tax write-off for the full value.
I am working with a theater in Abilene that is looking to replace their old unit!

I stay away from used equipment like the plague. The only things that happen from used equipment is heartache and pain. If I observe operations of said unit, do the takeout myself, seal everything properly, then I may consider installing it at another place. But when you think about it,,, the customer doesn't care that it was used, they just know that you put it in and three weeks later it took a crap on em. Your name goes in the gutter and you end up married to that unit.
