Hi there..
The contractor I like the most bid a Trane Xl14i outside with an ARI matched ADP coil inside. I asked him to big a 10 year parts and labor warranty so the warranty on the coil is likely a third party warranty rather than one from Trane.
Are third party warrantys trustable?
It is easy to find mulitple hvac contractors to service the warranties (what if this guy goes out of business)?
Are they worth the money or just a joke?
Thanks much,
Bill

Cant answer to the third party warranty, but Tranes is transferrable.

We don't sell 3rd party warranties, if someone has one, we collect from the homeowner and it is up to them to get payment from the warranty company.
IMO, have them install a Trane coil with the system so the entire system is covered by a 10 year P&L warranty from Trane. Any Trane dealer can handle your warranty repairs, and the warranty is transferable to a new owner.

I agree with Mark. If you have problems down the road and you have the system serviced by someone other the company that installed it, there could be an issue with whether they will blame Trane or the coil manufacturer for the problem.

This happened to us on a Trane with a Superior coil, had it on Trane form but they FLAMED it. Of course they honored it because we would fix the problem and not sell it anymore. We also sell Carrier,it is nice to have a fall back if you hit some rough roads with the other.

What was the reason for bidding it with a ADP coil and not a Trane?
Follow Marks advice.

Another thing that can happen and has is the warranty co. will go bankrupt leaving you with nothing.

We use Equiguard. No problems with them, well insured. New owner can transfer the warranty.
The ADP coil will get (at least according to the ARI rating) 14 SEER from the XL14i with standard blower where a Trane coil will not (at least according to the ARI rating).

Equigard is one of the original and longest lasting aftermarket labor warranty insurers, but why not go with the labor policy sold by the manufacturer of the equipment?

I just noticed that myself. I wonder what the sensable/latent split is on it? Most of the matchups I looked up on Trane's software have that outdoor unit matching up with a trane coil are in the 12-12.5 SEER range with around a 70/30 sensable latent split.

I have to say I agree, I would rather have a Trane coil. Baldloonie nailed it. The guy bid the ADP coil because I would qualify for the $425 rebate from the local energy company due to the "tier 2" ARI classification. The salesman was sure I could buy the 10yr from Trane to cover it .. but that does not seem to be the concensous.
Like Mark said if we swapped in the Trane coil instead of the ADP the ARI rating drops to tier 1 and the rebate drops by $225. I would gladly give up the $225 if the Trane coil is a better product and would have a better warranty.
My guy bid a 2TTx4048 with a TE50460 (HE50460) coil. I need 35,000 BTUs sensible cooling and only 3200 BTUs latent. I want to know if the Trane coil should be a bump in price beyond the $225 lower rebate.
- Should I expect the appropriate Trane coil generally cost the same or more than the ADP coil listed?
- Should I expect more than $2.00-$10.00 per month difference in monthly costs to run the lower Seer Trane coil?
Thanks much,
Bill
