Hi,

I have a relatively new Carrier heat pump, split system, 3 ton, single stage scroll. Am seeing something I don't understand...

The energy consumption of the heat pump has been consistently around 15KW/day. However the last few days it has jumped up to about 20KW/day. A 30% increase. The only change is the humidity outside has leaped into high gear the last few days. Can increased humidity account for all that extra power consumption?? If so, can some of you pro's explain why??

By the way, there is no stat humidity control issue at play here, everything has been consistent in terms of parameters of operation.

Thanks,

Sonic

While running your air conditioner it first has to dehumidify the air so higher humidity means it needs to run a little longer but I wouldn't think it would be that much, but I live in WA and we don't deal with the humidity issues that FL does.
