I just had 2 A/S furnaces{AUD120R9v5k4 5 ton Variable speed for the larger furnace and 2 ton standard blower AUDO60C924K4 for the smaller furnace}and 2 a/c units [large unit 4 ton 12 seer 2A7A2048A1000AA and small unit 1.5 ton 11 seer 2A7A1018A1000AA] installed by an A/S comfort specialist. One of the things I liked about A/S was the comfort R feature. I just had the installer who is also the owner come out to do a final check[ ie limit switch, gas pressure, heat rise, fan speed] and to make sure the comfort R feature was working. He assured me the Comfort R feature was working. I was looking at the install manual and the factory setup seemed not to fit any of the usual settings. I could not find a combination of dipswitch setting where switches 7 and 8 were off, on Is this the usual set up?

Dipswitch original setting 1off, 2off, 3off, 4off, 5on, 6off, 7off 8on

I asked him to lower the fan speed from the factory setting of approx 2000 cfm to approx 1600 cfm so we could lower the humidity in the house. From my reading 500 cfm/ton of a/c was way too high for the chicago area. We normally are comfortable at 78 and 50% humidity and this is what we got with the old units. The new units are less comfortable at 76 degrees and 54% Rh.

He changed the dipswitches on the large furnace to

1on, 2off, 3off, 4off, 5on, 6off, 7off, 8on

I think the first four switches are correct but I later looked at the install manual and it seems that switch 5 and 6 should be on for comfort r. It also mentions that there is a wiring set up for Comfort R. I am hoping an american standard or trane person can help. What should be done for
setting up comfort R?

Thanks for your help.

The furnace is currently set up for 1600 CFM, but Comfort-R is not on.

For Comfort-R to work, #5 and #6 both need to be on. Since it is a gas furnace with single stage cooling, there needs to be a jumper wire installed between Y and O or R and O on the furnace control board for Comfort-R to work also.

I would ask him about switches 7 and 8 also. 7 off and 8 on is not a valid combination. Those 2 switches control the heating airflow. Both on would be low, 7 on 8 off would be medium(factory default), and both off would be high.

Thanks for you help. Is the wiring for comfort R difficult? I am not sure this installer has ever done this before despite being in the business for 30 years.
Thanks for the comment about switch 7 and 8. I thought it was wrong.
About the jumper wire, is your answer that either combination works for comfort R or is it that one of the two connections is the correct one, but at this time you are not sure which one is correct?

Much thanks

It doesn't matter wich way it is done, the result is the same. I personally prefere to jumper between Y and O so that O is only energized on a call for cooling. It makes no difference if it is energized at other times, but if it isn't energized when there is a call for cooling, Comfort-R won't work.

Thanks much for your reply and knowledge. I hope my installer can do it correctly. Is it possible to tell me what "Y" "R" and "O" control?
Is there a way I as the homeowner can easily check that comfort R is working properly?
