Any possible damage to new compressor due to TXV mixup? Here's what happened. Two tranes installed. One a 16xli 2 ton which utilizes R-401a the other a 12xr 2 ton which is R-22. The installer got the TXV's mixed up and installed them on the wrong units. On start up the tech couldn't figure out what was wrong (had to call the boss). Boss figured it out right away. Now when the 12 shuts off the compressor makes this loud scraping screech. Almost sounds like fan blades raking something to a sudden stop but it's not the fan, it's coming from the compressor. Is that normal for the the 12XR when it turns off?

I can't see the mix up causing the problem you describe.
the txv will cause pressure problems, but it sounds like you guys caught this before any lengthy run times.

Might have washed out alot of the oil, because of flooding back to the compressor.

A wild guess.
The 410a TXV flooded the 22 compressor with refrigerant, washing out the lubricant from the bearings. Compressor failure may occur later.
It's not right, have them fix it. Now. On their dime not on yours.
